330　hang about，hang on，hang up和hang upon

① hang about意為“在附近逗留，東游西蕩，徘徊”。

They hanged about the village last night. 他們昨晚在村里閑蕩。

Don't hang about and do nothing. 不要東游西蕩什么也不干。

② hang on常表示下面兩種含義。

（1）表示“堅(jiān)持下去，繼續(xù)干”。

If you hang on，you will succeed in the end. 如果你堅(jiān)持下去的話，你最后會(huì)成功的。

He hanged on in spite of the difficulties. 他不顧困難，繼續(xù)干下去。

（2）表示“不掛斷電話”。

Please hang on！I'll call her. 請(qǐng)別掛斷！我去叫她。

The exchange girl told him to hang on. 女接線員要他不要掛斷電話。

③ hang up常表示下面兩種含義。

（1）表示“把……吊起來(lái)，掛起”。

She hung up the pictures on the wall. 她把圖畫(huà)掛在了墻上。

Some clothes are hung up from the tree. 一些衣服掛在樹(shù)上。

（2）表示“掛斷電話”。

She hung up before the conversation was over. 話還沒(méi)有講完，她就掛斷了電話。

I tried to talk to her，but she hung up. 我想和她談?wù)?，但她卻把電話掛了。

④ hang on/upon表示“聽(tīng)從，看情況決定”。

They all hang upon her words. 他們都照她的話行事。

The issue hangs upon the outcome of the discussion. 這個(gè)問(wèn)題要看討論的結(jié)果而定。
