山姆與哈里

One fine summer afternoon, Sam was walking home from school.

一個(gè)夏日里美好的午后，山姆從學(xué)?；丶摇?/p>

He went along slowly, reading a book.

他走得非常慢， 一邊走一邊看書。

Sam had spent all his money for the book, but he was a happy boy.

山姆為了買這本書花光了他所有的錢，但他很快樂。

At length he came into the highroad, where there was a gate.

最后，他走上了一條大路，那里有一扇門。

A blind man stood, holding it open.

一位盲人站在那里，并把門打開。

The poor man said, "Please give me a few cents to buy some bread!"

這個(gè)窮人說：“請給我?guī)追皱X買些面包吧！”

But Sam gave him nothing.

山姆沒有給他。

What! did Sam give the poor blind man nothing?

什么？山姆什么都沒有給那個(gè)窮困的盲人嗎？

Yes; for, as I told you, he had spent all his money.

是的，因?yàn)榫拖裎腋嬖V你的，他花光了他所有的錢。

So Sam walked on, very sad. Soon after, a fine carriage came up, and in it were Harry and his mother.

山姆非常難過地繼續(xù)往前走。很快，一個(gè)漂亮的馬車趕了上來，里面坐著哈里和他的媽媽。

The blind man stood, and held out his hat.

這個(gè)盲人站在那兒，摘下了他的帽子。

"Let us give the poor man something," said Harry to his mother.

“我們給這個(gè)窮人一些東西吧。”哈里對他的媽媽說。

His mother gave him some cents.

媽媽給了他幾分錢。

Harry took them, but did not put them into the man's hat.

哈里接過錢，卻沒有把錢放進(jìn)那個(gè)人的帽子里。

He threw them into the hedge as far as he could.

他用盡全力，把錢扔進(jìn)了籬笆里。

The poor man could not find them, for, you know, he was blind.

這個(gè)窮人無法找到錢，你知道，他的眼睛看不見。

Sam had turned back to look at the fine carriage.

山姆轉(zhuǎn)過身看著那輛漂亮的馬車。

He saw Harry throw the cents into the hedge; so he came back at once, and looked for the money until he found it all for the blind man.

他看到哈里把錢扔進(jìn)了籬笆，他立刻回去找錢，直到把錢交給那位盲人。

This took so long a time, that he almost lost his supper.

為了找到錢，他花了很長時(shí)間，以至于耽誤了晚飯。

Which of the boys do you think was truly kind to the poor man?

你認(rèn)為哪個(gè)男孩才是對那個(gè)窮人真正友善的人呢？

I know which he thanked most in his heart.
