威利和鮑恩斯

Two fast friends were Willie Brown and his little dog Bounce.

威利.布朗和他的小狗鮑恩斯是一對(duì)忠實(shí)的朋友。

Willie could never think of taking a walk without Bounce.

威利無(wú)法想象沒(méi)有鮑恩斯和他一起散步的情形。

Cake and play were equally shared between them.

他們會(huì)分享蛋糕，會(huì)一起做游戲。

Willie taught his dog many cunning tricks, and often said that Bounce could do almost anything in the world but talk.

威利教給他的狗很多狡猾的戲法。他總是說(shuō)，鮑恩斯除了不會(huì)說(shuō)話，幾乎可以做世界上的任何事。

There came a time, however, when Bounce really told Willie's father something, though he could not talk.

終于有一次，鮑恩斯雖然不會(huì)說(shuō)話，它卻真的把一些事告訴了威利的爸爸。

Let me tell you how he did this.

讓我告訴你它是怎么做到的吧！

It was on a bright summer afternoon.

這是一個(gè)夏日陽(yáng)光燦爛的午后。

Willie had strolled with Bounce down to the river, which was not more than two blocks from his father's store.

威利和鮑恩斯一起到河邊散步，這里距離他爸爸的商店不超過(guò)兩個(gè)街區(qū)。

Willie began to throw stones into the water, and to watch the ripples as they made one circle after another.

威利開(kāi)始往水里扔石頭，看著波浪一圈圈地?cái)U(kuò)展開(kāi)來(lái)。

Bounce lay on the grass, watching the flies that buzzed around his nose, and catching any that came too near.

鮑恩斯躺在草地上，看著蒼蠅在它鼻子周?chē)宋说仫w，并趕走飛得太近的蒼蠅。

There were some logs floating in the river near the shore.

很多圓木漂浮在商店附近的河面上。

Willie jumped upon one of them, to see if he could throw a stone across the river.

威利跳上其中的一個(gè)圓木，看看他是否能夠把一個(gè)石頭扔到河對(duì)岸。

He drew back, and sent the stone with all his might.

他后退幾步，用盡全身力氣扔出石頭。

Just as it left his hand, the log turned, and he fell into the water.

就在石頭脫手的一剎那，圓木翻了，威利掉進(jìn)了河里。

He was very much frightened, for he did not know how to swim, and there was no one to hear, though he called as loud as he could for help.

他非常害怕，因?yàn)樗粫?huì)游泳，盡管他用盡力氣喊叫，但沒(méi)有人能夠聽(tīng)到他呼救的聲音。
