Somebody with Imagination

Several weeks after a young man had been hired, he was called into the personnel director's office.

“What is the meaning of this? “ the director asked, “When you applied for the job, you told us you had five years' experience. Now we discover this is the first job you ever held.”

“Well,” the young man said, “in your advertisement you said you wanted somebody with imagination.”

一個年輕人被雇傭幾周后，被人事部經(jīng)理叫到辦公室。

“你到底什么意思?”經(jīng)理問，“你申請這份工作的時候，你告訴我們你有五年的工作經(jīng)驗?，F(xiàn)在我們發(fā)現(xiàn)這是你的第一份工作。”

“噢，”年輕人說，“當(dāng)時你們的招聘啟事上說想要招一個有想象力的人啊。”

詞匯講解】

1.hire雇用。文中hire是及物動詞的用法。如果是不及物動詞，就是“接受雇用“的意思，常與介詞 “out/on”連用：He hired out as a farmhand.他當(dāng)了農(nóng)場雇工。

2.personnel主管人事的：sb.’s personnel file某人的人事檔案; a personnel man人事部職員

3.director經(jīng)理，主管。在不同的語境下有不同的職位的意思，如“局長”、“處長”、“校長”、“導(dǎo)演”、“指揮”、“神父”等。

4.apply for a job申請就業(yè)。Apply是個很實用的詞，作及物動詞時，apply?to 是致力于? 的意思：He applied himself to learning French.他致力于學(xué)習(xí)法語。作不及物動詞時，apply to有“適用”的意思：This rule applies to freshmen only.此項規(guī)定僅適用于大一新生。

5.discover發(fā)現(xiàn)，及物或不及物皆可，作及物動詞時：She discovered she had lost her purse. 她發(fā)現(xiàn)自己丟了錢包。作不及物動詞時：The rumour is false, as far as I can discover.就我所知，傳聞不確。

6.imagination想象力，創(chuàng)造力，空想。a writer of rich imagination富有想象力的作家
