Because once in your lifetime your shirt wanted a button, you must almost swear the roof off the house.

and I think I ought by this time. I've lived long enough with you, Mr. Caudle, to know that.

我現(xiàn)在當(dāng)然懂了，高德先生，和你生活一起夠長(zhǎng)的，我心里再明白不過(guò)。

It's a pity you hav'n't something worse to complain of than a button off your shirt.

你可真夠不幸的，再?zèng)]有什么倒霉事能比過(guò)你那襯衫上掉個(gè)小小紐扣，你埋怨不停。

If you'd some wives, you would, I know.

I'm sure, Caudle, no man's buttons in the world are better looked after than yours.

I only wish I'd kept the shirts you had when you were first married! I should like to know where were your buttons then?

我真的巴望還留著你第一次結(jié)婚的襯衫，我太想知道了，那會(huì)你的紐扣究竟在哪？
