British police have shot dead a man in south London, who stabbed two people on a busy high street. Officers said the attack was related to Islamic terrorism. In total, three people were injured during the incident in Streatham, one of whom is in a life-threatening condition. The assailant was wearing what police described as a hoax device.

Mexican police are investigating a second death related to a monarch butterfly sanctuary in the western state of Michoacan. Prosecutors believe Raul Hernandez, a tour guide, was murdered. Last month, another activist was killed. The pair worked to protect the area from illegal logging and farming.

A court in Iran has handed down lengthy jail terms to a group of dissidents, who wrote an open letter last year urging the Supreme Leader Ali Hosseini Khamenei to step down. The eight accused were sentenced a total of 72 years in prison.
