我們先來聽下面的2個(gè)句子。
例句-1：He could sense that his former colleagues were laughing up their sleeves over his dismissal.
例句-2：We were all laughing up our sleeves at our brother when he sat down at the dinner table. He had seen his girl off at the airport and had lipstick on his face and he didn't know it.
接招：在我們剛才聽到的2個(gè)例句中都用到了同一個(gè)詞語：laugh up one's sleeves。這個(gè)短語中有一個(gè)習(xí)慣用語：up one's sleeves，它的意思是：hidden but ready to be used，意為偷偷地藏著準(zhǔn)備到時(shí)使用。例如：I still have a few tricks up my sleeves. 我還留著幾招了。它與have或者是keep連用，即：have/keep something up one's sleeves，意思是keep (a plan etc) secret for possible use at a later time(把一項(xiàng)計(jì)劃等保密不讓別人知道在將來有用的時(shí)候用上)，亦即我們中文中的“留有一手”之意。例如： I'm keeping this idea up my sleeve for the time being. 眼下我暫時(shí)不讓別人知道我的主意。那么和laugh搭配，意思就是偷偷地笑，躲著笑，竊笑，暗笑。要表示暗笑，竊笑某人，在短語的后面加上介詞at，即：laugh up one's sleeves at somebody。要表述暗笑，竊笑某事，在短語的后面用上介詞over，即：laugh up one's sleeves over something。
