第十四課 自然

Beautiful are the heralds that stand at Nature's door,

美麗的使者于自然門前倚立，

Crying, "O traveller, enter in,

喚著，“噢！游者們，請(qǐng)進(jìn)。

And taste the Master's store!"

來嘗嘗自然的美釀！”

"Enter, " they cry, "to a kingly feast,

“來吧！”他們喊著，“來參加高檔之宴，

Where all may venture near; —

或許那兒有危險(xiǎn)潛伏；——

A million beauties for the eye,

但卻有萬千美麗入目，

And music for the ear:

還有曠世奇樂入耳：

"Only, before thou enterest in, upon the threshold fall,

“進(jìn)來前，只需等待門檻落降，

And pay the tribute of thy praise

將你真誠(chéng)的贊美之心

'To Him who gives thee all.'"

So some kneel down, and enter

跪拜后，那么，請(qǐng)進(jìn)

With reverent step and slow;

踏著虔誠(chéng)的步子輕入；

And calm airs fraught with precious scent

凍結(jié)的空氣里充斥著凝重氣息

Breathe round them as they go:

縈繞在挪步人身旁：

Gently they pass 'mid sight and sound

他們悄然經(jīng)過，美景悅音之間

And the sunshine round them sleeping,

還有陽(yáng)光相伴入眠，

To where the angels Faith and Love

天使灑滿信仰和愛之地

The inner gates are keeping.

內(nèi)門緊閉。

Then backward rolls the wondrous screen

將遮蓋秘密之地的

That hides the secret place,

神奇幕簾向后卷起，

Where the God of Nature veils himself

那是自然之神，在明亮的恩典王國(guó)里的

In the brighter realms of Grace:

藏匿自身之地：

But they who have not bent the knee

但是，沒有屈膝的他們

Will smile at this my story;

會(huì)嘲弄我的事跡；

For, though they enter the temple gates,

因?yàn)?，即使跨入神殿之門，

They know not the inner glory.
