Day 17 To reverse a decline in listener numbers, our owners have decided that WWAC must change from its current rock-music format

The following appeared in a memorandum from the manager of WWAC radio station.

“To reverse a decline in listener numbers, our owners have decided that WWAC must change from its current rock-music format. The decline has occurred despite population growth in our listening area, but that growth has resulted mainly from people moving here after their retirement. We must make listeners of these new residents. We could switch to a music format tailored to their tastes, but a continuing decline in local sales of recorded music suggests limited interest in music. Instead we should change to a news and talk format, a form of radio that is increasingly popular in our area.”

Write a response in which you discuss what specific evidence is needed to evaluate the argument and explain how the evidence would weaken or strengthen the argument.

五問：

（1）“The decline has occurred despite population growth in our listening area, but that growth has resulted mainly from people moving here after their retirement”和“a continuing decline in local sales of recorded music”是事實(shí)，“To reverse a decline in listener numbers, our owners have decided that WWAC must change from its current rock-music format”是結(jié)論，需要反駁嗎？

（2）搖滾樂節(jié)目是 WWAC的聽眾減少的唯一原因嗎？是否可能有其他原因？例如：主持人的主持風(fēng)格，電臺的廣告太多等。

（3）新增的人口一定不熱衷于音樂嗎？唱片業(yè)的衰落是意味著人們不熱衷音樂，還是僅僅意味著人們不愿意付費(fèi)而已？又或者有其他原因，你能羅列其中的一兩個(gè)嗎？比如：最近唱片發(fā)行量比較小，也許是沒有很好聽的專輯問世，還有可能是本地居民的收入減少。

（4）日益流行的新聞及談話類節(jié)目一定比音樂類節(jié)目更受歡迎嗎？（“日益流行”是否意味著它現(xiàn)在已經(jīng)達(dá)到了和音樂同等的流行程度？）新增的人口就一定會喜歡新聞及談話類節(jié)目嗎？

（5）追趕潮流有可能會吸引新的聽眾，但是否也可能會損失原有的忠實(shí)聽眾？這最終會導(dǎo)致總?cè)藬?shù)的增加還是減少？請說說為什么。如果原本喜歡聽搖滾樂的聽眾因?yàn)楣?jié)目改成新聞和談話類型而放棄收聽該電臺，同時(shí)新增的人口也沒有因此而收聽該電臺，或者收聽人數(shù)很少的話，那聽眾總?cè)藬?shù)反而會減少。
