美銀一些股東反對從內(nèi)部提拔新CEO

Pressure from institutional investors is starting to build on Bank of America's board to name an outsider to replace Ken Lewis, who retires as chief executive at the end of the year.

Three institutional investors have urged BofA to look beyond internal candidates, according to people familiar with the matter. Another institutional shareholder, Northern Trust, is planning to raise concerns.

Two insiders – retail banking chief Brian Moynihan and chief risk officer Greg Curl – have been tipped as the lead candidates among BofA executives.

However, individual board members also have expressed interest in two former BofA chief financial officers, Jim Hance and Al de Molina, people familiar with the matter said.

The concern over the possible selection of a bank insider to replace Mr Lewis follows a plea last week from Finger Interests, a dissident shareholder, calling for other institutional investors to make their voices heard on the matter.

Finger Interests is a Houston-based investment firm founded by Jerry and Jonathan Finger.

Two other undisclosed shareholders have already raised concerns over the appointment of an insider with BofA, people familiar with the matter said.

George Maris, a portfolio manager at Northern Trust, added that he planned to contact the BofA board this week.

“From a generic perspective, I'm very much against hiring insiders, given the bank's dramatic under-performance over the past year,” he said.

Mr Maris, who used to work for Mr Moynihan at Columbia Management, added that his former colleague would be the wrong man for the job.

He said Mr Moynihan has only been in charge of BofA's retail operations for two months and had not previously run a retail bank.
