4. It's not a gun

A man was in a grocery store with his stingy1 friend when two robbers broke in and asked all the people to put up their hands.

As the robbers began searching the boss and other people for money, he felt a nudge2, "Take this," his friend whispered3.

Don't give me a gun, the man whispered back, "I don't want to be a hero."

It's not a gun—it's that twenty-six dollars I owe4 you.

不是槍

一個(gè)男子和他的小氣朋友正在商店時(shí)，兩個(gè)強(qiáng)盜突然闖進(jìn)來(lái)，命令所有人舉起手來(lái)。

強(qiáng)盜們開(kāi)始對(duì)商店老板和其他人搜身時(shí)，該男子感覺(jué)到他朋友推了他一下。“拿著這個(gè)，”朋友低聲說(shuō)。

“別給我槍?zhuān)痹撃凶右矇旱吐曇艋卮鸬?，“我可不想做英雄”?

Mean和Stingy都有“小氣、吝嗇”的意思，但前者主要是指對(duì)他人不友善，后者主要指對(duì)金錢(qián)錙銖必較。因此一個(gè)對(duì)他人很mean很刻薄的人很可能自己花錢(qián)很大方，而一個(gè)對(duì)金錢(qián)很在乎很stingy的人很可能對(duì)每個(gè)人都很和善。
