  1. The artist is very famous at home and in abroad.(×)

  The artist is very famous at home and abroad.(√)

  abroad是副詞,其前不可置介詞,但from abroad例外,如:My dad is fresh from abroad.(我爸爸剛從國(guó)外回來(lái)。)

  2. Keep in touch when you go abroad.(×)

  Keep in touch when you are abroad.(√)

  go abroad是指(措機(jī))“出國(guó)”的動(dòng)作,此時(shí)保持聯(lián)絡(luò)不合情理。be abroad指人“在國(guó)外”時(shí)的狀態(tài),此時(shí)保持聯(lián)絡(luò)才合情合理。

  3. There are two absent students today.(×)

  There are two students absent today.(√)

  absent表“缺席的/不在的”時(shí),一般不直接修飾名詞,大多接在be動(dòng)詞之后。two students absent即two students who are absent的省略形式。不過(guò)在英式用法中,absent可直接修飾少數(shù)的幾個(gè)名詞,如:He is an absent father.(他是一個(gè)經(jīng)常不在家的父親。—即他是一個(gè)不稱(chēng)職的父親。)這句話的美式說(shuō)法是:He is an absentee father。

  John becomes abusive when he gets drunk.(√)

  abused指“被虐待的”,如:an abused child就是指“一個(gè)受虐的小孩”。abusive是“謾罵的”或“虐待人的”,如:an abusive parent就是指“虐待兒女的父親或母親”。

  5. Mayumi speaks English with strong Japanese accent.(×)

  Mayumi speaks English with a strong Japanese accent. (√)

  accent是可數(shù)名詞,其前須置a或an。

  6. I cannot accept such a person. (×)

  I cannot stand such a person. (√)

  accept只能用于“接受”事物,即建議、忠告或邀請(qǐng),如:I accepted her proposal then and there.(我當(dāng)場(chǎng)接受了她的提議。)stand表“忍受”,可用人或事物作賓語(yǔ)。

  7. Besides the Net, students should have an access to a good library. (×)

  Besides the Net, students should have access to a good library. (√)

  have / get / gain access to sth是指“某人有機(jī)會(huì)或有權(quán)利進(jìn)入/利用某物”,其中access是不可數(shù)名詞,其前不可加an。

  In fact, the birth of our third child was an accident. (√)

  by accident 表“意外地州禺然地”,是副詞詞組,只能修飾一般動(dòng)詞,不能作be動(dòng)詞的表語(yǔ),如:I found out the secret by accident.(我偶然發(fā)現(xiàn)了這個(gè)秘密。)表沒(méi)有料想到的“意外”時(shí),應(yīng)該說(shuō)sth is / was an accident。

  9. She cut her finger carelessly. (×)

  She cut her finger by accident.(√)

  carelessly表“粗心大意地”,如:He often drives carelessly.(他開(kāi)車(chē)經(jīng)常粗心大意。

  10. It is not an accident that Nick has three divorces.(×)

  It is no accident that Nick has three divorces.(√)

  It is no accident that..意為“某事的發(fā)生決非偶然”,為固定用法,不可將no拆成not an。
