provide 的用法
一、provide作/"提供;供給/"講時,常用于以下結(jié)構(gòu):
1. 接名詞作賓語。
It is said that the management will provide food and drink.
據(jù)說管理部門將供應(yīng)飲食。
2. 用于provide sth. for sb.結(jié)構(gòu),即/"向某人提供某物/",也可用provide sb.with sth. 結(jié)構(gòu)。這兩者意思相同,可互換,但介詞不可混淆。
They provided some necessary support for the sufferers.
他們?yōu)槭茈y者提供了一些必要的援助。
二、provide作/"規(guī)定/"講時,其后通常接從句作賓語。
The local law provides that valuable ancient buildings must be protected by the government.
當(dāng)?shù)胤梢?guī)定,政府必須保護(hù)那些有價值的古建筑。
三、provide常用的習(xí)語結(jié)構(gòu):
1. provide against... 為......作好準(zhǔn)備;預(yù)防......。
We should try our best to provide against the return of bird flu.
我們應(yīng)該盡最大努力來預(yù)防禽流感的再次發(fā)生。
2. provide for 提供生活費,養(yǎng)活。
He provided for his family by selling newspapers.
他靠賣報來養(yǎng)活他的家人。
四、provide的過去分詞形式provided和V-ing形式providing均可作連詞,用來引導(dǎo)條件從句,意為/"如果......的話;只要....../"??芍苯咏訌木?,也可加上that,二者可互換,但在正式文體中多用provided。
I will agree to go providing (that) my expenses are paid.
只要為我負(fù)擔(dān)費用,我就同意去。
provide 可以接介詞 for, with ,但也可以接 to ,都有提供的意思,區(qū)別在于用法:
Water is provided for the tenants' exclusive use. (為了... 而提供)
The tenanats are provided with water for their exclusive use. (租客被提供水... 以便...)
Water is provided to the tenants for their exclusive use. (水被提供給租客 ... )
不同詞性(主動,被動,主語,賓語,...),但異曲同工.

offer:
1. 給予,提供;拿出,出示[(+to)]
He offered me a glass of wine.

2. 愿意;試圖(做某事);提議[+to-v]
They offered to help me.

He offered to lend me some books.

3. 出(價);開(價)
We offered him the calculator for US$50.

afford:
(常與can,could,be able to連用)買得起;有足夠的...(去做...) [+to-v]
They did not consider whether they could afford the time or not.
他們沒有考慮是否抽得出時間。
We can't afford to pay such a price.
