泰戈?duì)枴缎略录返?0期:惡郵差 THE WICKED POSTMAN

《新月集》 (The Crescent Moon，1903)是印度詩(shī)人、作家泰戈?duì)杽?chuàng)作的詩(shī)集，主要譯自1903年出版的孟加拉文詩(shī)集《兒童集》，也有的是用英文直接創(chuàng)作的。 詩(shī)集里著力描繪的是一個(gè)個(gè)天真可愛(ài)的兒童。詩(shī)人塑造了一批神形兼?zhèn)?、熠熠閃光的天使般的兒童藝術(shù)形象。

在《新月集》中，詩(shī)人書(shū)寫(xiě)了孩子純凈的心靈。孩子們喜歡玩簡(jiǎn)單的小游戲，且樂(lè)此不疲。“他們用沙子建造房屋，他們用空貝殼游戲。”“孩子，你多么快樂(lè)，整個(gè)早晨坐在塵土里，玩著一根折斷的小樹(shù)枝。”孩子們有著奇妙的想象，“如果我鬧著玩兒，變成一朵金香木花，長(zhǎng)在那樹(shù)的高枝上，在風(fēng)中笑得搖搖擺擺，在新生嫩葉上跳舞，媽媽?zhuān)阏J(rèn)得出是我嗎?”此外，《新月集》也描寫(xiě)了孩子和母親的感情。“他知道慈母心中小小一角就可以容納無(wú)窮的歡樂(lè)，被母親逮住了緊抱在她慈愛(ài)的雙臂里，遠(yuǎn)比自由甜蜜。”在詩(shī)人的筆下，詩(shī)中的母親帶有一種圣潔的光輝。

30 惡郵差 THE WICKED POSTMAN

WHY do you sit there on the floor so quiet and silent, tell me, mother dear?

你為什么坐在那邊地板上不言不動(dòng)的，告訴我呀，親愛(ài)的媽媽?

The rain is coming in through the open window, making you all wet, and you don't mind it.

雨從開(kāi)著的窗口打進(jìn)來(lái)了，把你身上全打濕了，你卻不管。

Do you hear the gong striking four? It is time for my brother to come home from school.

你聽(tīng)見(jiàn)鐘已打四下了么?正是哥哥從學(xué)校里回家的時(shí)候了。

What has happened to you that you look so strange?

到底發(fā)生了什么事，你的神色這樣不對(duì)?

Haven't you got a letter from father to-day?

你今天沒(méi)有接到爸爸的信么?

I saw the postman bringing letters in his bag for almost everybody in the town.

我看見(jiàn)郵差在他的袋里帶了許多信來(lái)，幾乎鎮(zhèn)里的每個(gè)人都分送到了。

Only, father's letters he keeps to read himself. I am sure the postman is a wicked man.

只有爸爸的信，他留起來(lái)給他自己看。我確信這個(gè)郵差是個(gè)壞人。

But don't be unhappy about that, mother dear.

但是不要因此不樂(lè)呀，親愛(ài)的媽媽。

To-morrow is market day in the next village. You ask your maid to buy some pens and papers.

明天是鄰村市集的日子。你叫女仆去買(mǎi)些筆和紙來(lái)。

I myself will write all father's letters; you will not find a single mistake.

我自己會(huì)寫(xiě)爸爸所寫(xiě)的一切信;使你找不出一點(diǎn)錯(cuò)處來(lái)。

I shall write from A right up to K.

我要從A字一直寫(xiě)到K字。

But, mother, why do you smile?

但是，媽媽?zhuān)銥槭裁葱δ?

You don't believe that I can write as nicely as father does!

你不相信我能寫(xiě)得同爸爸一樣好!

But I shall rule my paper carefully, and write all the letters beautifully big.

但是我將用心畫(huà)格子，把所有的字母都寫(xiě)得又大又美。

When I finish my writing, do you think I shall be so foolish as father and drop it into the horrid postman's bag?

當(dāng)我寫(xiě)好了時(shí)，你以為我也像爸爸那樣傻，把它投入可怕的郵差的袋中么?

I shall bring it to you myself without waiting, and letter by letter help you to read my writing.

我立刻就自己送來(lái)給你，而且一個(gè)字母，一個(gè)字母地幫助你讀。

I know the postman does not like to give you the really nice letters.

我知道那郵差是不肯把真正的好信送給你的。
