Directions: For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a short essay on advantages and disadvantages of nuclear energy . You should write at least 150 words but no more than 200 words according to the following guidelines:
Some hold that nuclear energy is a better choice for meeting increasing demand.
Others are against nuclear energy because they think nuclear energy may be irreversibly harmful to people’s health and environment.
What’s your opinion? Why?

Nuclear energy plants provide about 17 percent of the world’s electricity. More than 400 nuclear energy plants around the world are under use now. In France, for instance, about 75 percent of the electricity is generated from nuclear energy. Many countries increasingly depend on nuclear energy for electricity. 1
Some hold that nuclear energy is a good choice for meeting increasing demand. 2 The rapid development of economy and society as well as the expanded population, causes heavy burden to the resource supply. In these conditions, nuclear energy shows its giant charm in providing energy efficiently and largely. But others are against nuclear energy because they think nuclear energy may be irreversibly harmful to people’s health and environment. 2 Once the unexpected situation happens, it may cause a tragedy to human beings. And the nuclear crisis of 2011 of Japan has supported their concern to some degree.
As for me, I am in favor of using nuclear energy. First, nuclear energy produces nearly no conventional air pollution, which can be called as “clean energy”. 3 Besides, due to advancements in technology, risks such as natural disaster can be avoided scientifically. 3 Last, compared with other energies like solar energy, wind energy and tidal energy, it is the best to solve the shortage of coal and natural gas. 3
expanded adj.
charm n. 魅力
irreversibly adv.
conventional adj. 傳統(tǒng)的
in favor of 贊同;支持
1. Once the unexpected situation happens, it may cause a tragedy to human beings.
2. Last, compared with other energies like solar energy, wind energy and tidal energy, it is the best to solve the shortage of coal and natural gas.
過去分詞短語compared with other energies like solar energy, wind energy and tidal energy作狀語,表被動。
