Larry和李華今天晚上約好和朋友碰面，可是當(dāng)Larry到李華家接她時(shí)，李華還在梳妝打扮。今天李華會(huì)學(xué)到兩個(gè)常用語(yǔ)：dilly-dally和dis。

LL: Come on, Li Hua. Aren't you ready yet?

LH: 再等一下，我頭發(fā)還沒(méi)弄好呢。

LL: Come on, already. Stop dilly-dallying and let's go!

LH: Larry，你在說(shuō)什么啊，什么是dilly-dally?。?/p>

LL: To dilly-dally is to waste time doing pointless things. Right now, you're dilly-dallying with your hair when our friend is waiting for us.

LH: Dilly-dally就是拖拖拉拉。噢，你是說(shuō)我們的朋友在等著，而我在這兒浪費(fèi)時(shí)間。整理頭發(fā)是浪費(fèi)時(shí)間？我總不能披頭散發(fā)地出門(mén)吧。 你不有的時(shí)候也愛(ài)拖拖拉拉，- dilly-dally嘛。

LL: Me? Dilly-dally? Tell me, when have I ever dilly-dallied?

LH: 瞧你說(shuō)得，好像你自己從來(lái)沒(méi)有拖拖拉拉過(guò)？?jī)商烨?，我們約好晚上七點(diǎn)吃晚飯，結(jié)果你在家打電話跟朋友聊天，到了七點(diǎn)半才來(lái)！ 這不是Dilly-dally嗎? 你忘啦？

LL: Oh, I forgot about that. Yeah, I guess I do dilly-dally sometimes. I really felt sorry for making you wait.

LH：還有一次我在家里開(kāi)party，我讓你早點(diǎn)來(lái)幫忙，結(jié)果客人都到齊了，你還沒(méi)有到，原來(lái)你是去買(mǎi)牙膏，在商店里逛得忘了時(shí)間。

LL：Hey, Li Hua, you do have a good memory. I already forgot about it. But, I am sorry for dilly-dallying.

LH：我倒不是要你道歉，你早就道歉過(guò)了。我只是要提醒你，你也有拖拖拉拉的時(shí)候。也就是：dilly-dally，對(duì)不對(duì)？

LL：You're right. But at least you've learned how to use "dilly-dally".

LH: 不過(guò)說(shuō)真的，現(xiàn)在是5點(diǎn)半，我們和John的約會(huì)是6點(diǎn)，真的得趕快走了。

LL: Well, because of your dilly-dallying, we're really going to have to hurry.

LH: Larry，你的上衣和褲子根本就不搭配，你是關(guān)著燈穿衣服還是怎么著？

LL: Don't dis my clothes! I may not have great fashion sense, but at least I don't waste a lot of time dilly-dallying with my hair.

LH: 哎，我是在說(shuō)你的衣服，你怎么又扯上我的頭發(fā)。你說(shuō)我dis你的衣服。那是什么意思？

LL: To "dis" something is to criticize something or make a negative comment about it. I think dis is short for "disrespect."

LH: 原來(lái)dis就是disrespect這個(gè)詞的簡(jiǎn)稱，disrespect就是不尊重。你說(shuō)：※Don't dis my clothes" 就是讓我別批評(píng)你的衣服。我不是批評(píng)你的衣服，只是搭配得不好么。

LL: That doesn't make me feel any better, Li Hua. It's not nice to dis your friends or their clothes.

LH: 我以為朋友之間應(yīng)該坦率，我說(shuō)你衣服搭配得不好，你也不高興，還說(shuō)我這樣說(shuō)是不禮貌的。你不覺(jué)得你這樣批評(píng)我也是不對(duì)的嗎？

LL: Oh, please, you started the whole thing by dissing my clothes.

LH: 好啦，好啦，我以后不說(shuō)就行啦。

LL: All right, I promise not to dis you if you promise not to dis me or my clothes, deal?

LH: Deal。以后你不批評(píng)我，我也不再批評(píng)你穿衣服的品味。我們就這么說(shuō)定了。 Larry，已經(jīng)六點(diǎn)了，怎么John還沒(méi)有來(lái)呢？

LL: Yeah, I wonder where he is? I hate people dilly-dallying.

LH: 也許John正在哪里閑晃，根本就忘記時(shí)間了！

今天李華學(xué)到兩個(gè)常用語(yǔ)，第一個(gè)是dilly-dally，是說(shuō)拖拖拉拉把時(shí)間浪費(fèi)在不重要的事情上。另一個(gè)常用語(yǔ)是dis，是批評(píng)或給予負(fù)面評(píng)價(jià)。
