A: I have heard that in Britain it often rains a lot. Sometimes I have heard the expression" raining cats and dogs" when it's raining very heavily.   Is that right?
 
聽(tīng)說(shuō)英國(guó)經(jīng)常下雨。我還聽(tīng)過(guò)raining cats and dogs這樣的說(shuō)法，指傾盆大雨。是這樣嗎？
 
B: Yes, it does rain quite a bit in Britain and we sometimes do say it's raining cats and dogs when it's raining very heavijy. But, we often just have showers, as in a small amount of rain, and then we say "It's drizzling. "
 
是的，英國(guó)經(jīng)常下雨。下大雨對(duì)我們有時(shí)的確會(huì)用raining cats and dog這樣的說(shuō)法。但是，我們一般下的只是小雨，雨量很少，這時(shí)我們就說(shuō)It's drizzling.。
 
A: Is it true chat English people always carry umbrellas around with them!
 
英國(guó)人是不是總隨身帶著雨傘?。?br />  
B: Only when it's raining. Actually that is one of the big diffrences between our two cultures.
 
只在下雨的時(shí)候帶。實(shí)際上這是我們兩種文化間一個(gè)很大的區(qū)別。
 
A: Oh, why is that?
 
哦，怎么回事？
 
B: Well, when the sun is shining we like to wear as few clothes as possible to get the maximun benefit from the sun bur you use umbrellas ro protcct yourself fiom the sun's rays.
 
是這樣，陽(yáng)光普照時(shí)我們都盡量少穿衣服多曬曬太陽(yáng)，但你們卻用傘來(lái)遮擋陽(yáng)光。
 
A: Yes, that's true. We think a pale skin is more beautiful.
 
的確如此。我們認(rèn)為皮膚白一點(diǎn)更漂亮。
 
B: But we think a tan makes us look more healthy.
 
但我們卻認(rèn)為皮膚曬黑了看上去更健康。
 
A: Is it often sunny in England?
 
英國(guó)晴天多嗎？
 
B: Not as much as we would like! It certainly does not get as hot as it does here in Beijing and the weatber is not dry like here.  I know we complain about the weather a lot but really I think we get a good mixture of sun and rain and snow.
 
并不像我們希望的那樣多。那里的確不像北京這么熱，也沒(méi)有這么干燥。我知道我們英國(guó)人常抱怨天氣，但實(shí)際上我認(rèn)為我們充分享受了陽(yáng)光和雨雪。
 
A: What about fog? I hear that there's a lot in London.
 
那霧呢？我聽(tīng)說(shuō)倫敦霧多。
 
B: Well. that used to be true up t0 50 years ago but now London is fog free.
 
哦，那至少是50年前的事了，現(xiàn)在倫敦都沒(méi)有霧了。
 
A: Why is that?
 
怎么回事？
 
B: Ever since the Clear Air Act of the early 50s we have moved away from coal to smokeless fuel and so the air has got a loC cleaner.
 
自從50年代初頒布了《空氣清潔法》以來(lái)，我們就一直用無(wú)煙燃料取代煤，所以空氣已經(jīng)變得干凈多了。
 
A: Which is your favourite season?
 
你最喜歡哪個(gè)季節(jié)呢？
 
B: I would have to say autumn because all the trees change colour as the leaves go ffom green to red. orange and brown and it really makes for a wonderful sight.
 
我最喜歡的是秋季，因?yàn)樗械臉?shù)葉都由綠色變成紅色、桔黃色和褐色，那景色真的漂亮極了。
 
A:What is winter like?
 
冬天是什么樣的？
 
B: Really cold! We would get quite a bit of snow from December to March. Children love it but older people don't like it as much.
 
非常冷！我們從12月起一直到次年3月份都會(huì)有很多霄天。孩子們非常喜歡下雪天，但年紀(jì)大一點(diǎn)的人不是很喜歡了。
