A:  what do you think about the public service advertisement for quiting smoking?

B:  while I think it's great that they're trying to get people to quit smoking, but I don't really care for the advertisement.

我覺得勸導(dǎo)別人戒煙是好的,不過我真的不喜歡那個(gè)廣告.

A:  why not?

為什么呢?

B:  the fish hook that they use is quite disturbing!

他們用的那個(gè)魚鉤實(shí)在讓人看著心煩.

A:  it's a pun. They use the fish hook to make you think about how you can get "hooked" on smoking.

那是個(gè)雙關(guān)語.用上鉤讓你聯(lián)想到吸煙上癮.

B:  I know, but I think it's not really appropriate for young children.

我知道,不過我覺得這不適合青少年.

A:  I think they're trying to scare the young people so that they don't ever start smoking.

我覺得它是想警示青少年不要嘗試沾染香煙.

B:  all advertisers like to catch young people because they know the meaning of loyalty.

所有的廣告商都想抓住年輕的消費(fèi)人群,因?yàn)樗麄兩钪放浦覍?shí)度的含義.

A:  perhaps you're right,, though. Maybe the advertisement would be more effective with adults anyhow.

也許你是對(duì)的.不過無論如何,這個(gè)廣告可能對(duì)成年人的影響更大.

B:  I have nothing against them putting the advertisements in magazines and newspapers that are read by adults, but I don't think they should have their ad on billboards where children can see them.

我不反對(duì)他們把這個(gè)關(guān)高刊登在成年人閱讀的報(bào)紙雜志上,可他們要是把它放在街面的廣告牌上,青少年都能看得到,這就不好了.

A:  that's a good point. I think I was so delighted to see that a billboard was being used to promote health that I didn't think about how children might understand the ad.

B:  you have to give them credit, though. It's about time people started becoming more aware of the dangers of smoking.

不過你還是應(yīng)該對(duì)他們給予充分的承認(rèn).人們是時(shí)候開始關(guān)注吸煙的危害了.
