Questioning the existence ofaliens is something that scientists have done for decades. In fact, most peopledo believe that aliens exist in some fashion. The main necessities for life arewater and some form of energy source. Not surprisingly, there are some planets, exoplanets and moons that fit the bill. Here are several best chances atfinding life in the universe.
◆TRAPPIST-1
TRAPPIST-1 is a planetarysystem a few dozen light-years away, whose discovery was announced in early2017. This system consists of seven Earth-like exoplanets orbiting an"ultra-cool" star, and it is one of our shots at finding possiblelife beyond our own solar system.
◆Titan
Titan is the largest moon ofSaturn, the sixth planet from our Sun. This moon could potentially harbor lifebut possibly not in the sense that we think. Titan does not exactly fit thedescription of being in a typical habitable zone.
Titan has water, and it hasliquid. It just doesn't have liquid water. The water on this moon is completelysolid because of the extremely cold temperature.
◆Europa
Europa is one of Jupiter'smoons here in our own solar system. It is another candidate due to itspotential to hold liquid water. Europa is thought to have all the necessitiesfor life including water, energy sources, and the right chemical build-up.
◆Mars
The Red Planet, the fourthfrom the Sun, is probably one of the most talked-about potential candidates forextraterrestrial(地球外的) life and even for human colonization. Despite some different voices, finding extraterrestrial life on Mars really is a serious possibility.
We know by now that we won'tfind little green men or any intelligent form of life that we understand. However, there is evidence that there was and may still be microscopic life onthe small red planet.
The common point of these celestial bodies is that _______.
A. solid water exists on them respectively
B. life might exist on each of them
C. they all contain liquid water
D. each of them has living things on it

About a monthafter I joined Facebook, I got a call from Lori Goler, a highly regarded seniordirector of marketing at eBay. She made it clear this was a business call. “Iwant to apply to work with you at Facebook,” she said. “Instead of recommendingmyself, I want to ask you: What is your biggest problem, and how can I solveit?”
Myjaw hit the floor. I had hired thousands of people over the previous decade andno one had ever said anything remotely like that. People usually focus onfinding the right role for themselves, with the implication that their skillswill help the company. Lori put Facebook’s needs front and center. It was akiller approach. I responded, “Recruiting is my biggest problem. And, yes, youcan solve it.”
Lorinever dreamed she would work in recruiting, but she jumped in. She even agreedto trade earnings for acquiring new skills in a new field. Lori did a great jobrunning recruiting and within months was promoted to her current job, leadingPeople@Facebook.
Themost common metaphor for careers is a ladder, but this concept no longerapplies to most workers. As of 2010, the average American had eleven jobs fromthe ages of eighteen to forty-six alone. Lori often quotes Pattie Sellers, whocame up with a much better metaphor: “Careers are a jungle gym, not a ladder.”
AsLori describes it, there’s only one way to get to the top of a ladder, butthere are many ways to get to the top of a jungle gym. The jungle gym modelbenefits everyone, but especially women who might be starting careers, switchingcareers, getting blocked by external barriers, or reentering the workforceafter taking time off. The ability to create a unique path with occasionaldips, detours (彎路), and even dead ends presentsgreat views of many people, not just those at the top. On a ladder, most climbersare stuck staring at the butt of the person above.
Why did Lori make the call?
A. She helped Facebook to solve the biggest problem.
B. She wanted to make a business deal with Facebook.
C. She tried to ask for a pay rise in Facebook.
D. She wanted to become an employee in Facebook.
