李時(shí)珍是中國(guó)著名的醫(yī)學(xué)家，和萊昂納多?達(dá)芬奇在西方的地位差不多。他出版了一部長(zhǎng)篇自然醫(yī)學(xué)百科全書--《本草綱目》。這部文稿非常詳細(xì)系統(tǒng)，是對(duì)孤本和醫(yī)學(xué)文稿進(jìn)行了幾十年研究后的產(chǎn)物。他增加了自己對(duì)于醫(yī)學(xué)實(shí)踐和家庭醫(yī)學(xué)知識(shí)的理解。他為了研究到處游歷。他想調(diào)查那個(gè)時(shí)期能了解到的所有知識(shí)，寫出來(lái)一本最準(zhǔn)確的自然醫(yī)學(xué)著作。他覺得現(xiàn)有的醫(yī)學(xué)文稿一般都不太準(zhǔn)確，甚至有危險(xiǎn)的誤導(dǎo)信息。

Li Shizhen was a famous medical scholar who has sort of the same stature as Leonardo da Vinci in the West. He published a very long encyclopedia of natural medicine called the Bencao Gangmu. The text was highly detailed and organized, and it was the product of decades of study of rare books and medical texts. He added his own understanding derived from his own medical practice and his family's medical lore. He went on journeys for research. He wanted to survey all the available knowledge of his time and write the most accurate natural medical text ever written. He thought that the medical texts that were generally available were inaccurate and even had dangerous misinformation.
