這首歌收錄于1972年的專輯《A Song For You》中。由理查德·卡朋特(Richard Carpenter)譜曲，約翰.貝蒂斯(John Bettis)填詞，由卡倫·卡朋特演唱，曾登上全美流行音樂(lè)榜榜首，并憑此歌曲于1974年獲美國(guó)唱片工業(yè)協(xié)會(huì)金唱片獎(jiǎng)。
卡倫·卡朋特(Karen Carpenter)及其兄理查德·卡朋特(Richard Carpenter)出生于美國(guó)康涅狄格州，理查德是位很有才華的藝人，演唱、彈琴、制作及歌曲創(chuàng)作均可勝任，與其妹組建樂(lè)隊(duì)后，甘為配角為妹妹寫歌，伴奏。他們自幼就擁有良好的音樂(lè)環(huán)境。1969年，他們帶著自錄的音樂(lè)走遍洛杉磯，終于在A&M唱片公司，他們迎來(lái)了成功的曙光。 1969年11月15日，首張專輯《CLOSE TO YOU》發(fā)行,專輯中的同名歌曲瞬即榮登排行榜首。從此，卡朋特兄妹演唱組的事業(yè)蒸蒸日上,不斷有佳作問(wèn)世。但好景不長(zhǎng)，卡倫因慢性厭食和神經(jīng)過(guò)敏于1983年2月4日死在深愛(ài)她的父母懷中。她死時(shí)只有三十二歲。木匠樂(lè)隊(duì)也到此終結(jié)。但卡倫·卡朋特那清新、健康的旋律，略帶憂郁的中音，親切自然的演唱確永遠(yuǎn)讓我們難以忘懷。
本歌出現(xiàn)在蒂姆.波頓2012年的新片《黑暗陰影》中，是上個(gè)世紀(jì)70年代的美國(guó)流行文化的代表。
這首歌被日本著名女歌手倉(cāng)木麻衣翻唱。收錄在她的第8張個(gè)人專輯《touch Me!》中。還被中國(guó)著名歌手王菲翻唱，收錄于《迷人的卡勒》中。
