專四聽力第4課：Broke；Lame
L：Michael，你看，這個劇院在演[音樂之聲]!我一直想看這個歌舞劇。
M：I know, it's a popular show.
L：誰都喜歡《音樂之聲》。Michael，今天晚上我們沒有功課，我們?nèi)タ?，好?
M：Sorry, Li Hua, I'm broke. Maybe another time.
L：Broke? 你受傷啦?
M：No, no, no! I did not break anything. Here broke means to have no money.
L：噢，你沒有摔斷骨頭，把我嚇一跳。Broke在這里的意思是沒有錢。上回我媽媽出了車禍，花了好多錢修車，她就沒錢了。這也可以說……
M：Yes, your mom was broke!
L：我哥哥付了學費，還買了好多書，他現(xiàn)在也是沒錢了。
M：Your brother is now broke! I know your sister spent all her money to buy a computer, so she is now broke too.
L：你怎么知道我姐姐買了一臺電腦，把所有的錢都花完了?
M：You told me yourself, you just forgot!
L：我告訴過你?我真是忘了?？墒俏也恍拍銢]有錢，你不是剛開始給一個公司打工，前幾天還發(fā)了工資嗎?
M：Ok, ok, I'm not broke. We can go see the show.
L：我知道你有錢!太好了，太好了，謝謝你Michael。
L：這兩個座位還挺好的。
M：Yea, pretty good. Li Hua, do you know why I didn't want to come to the show? Because I think musicals are lame.
L：Lame?Lame是什么意思呀?
M：When you say something is lame you mean that it is silly or it is uninteresting.
L：噢，說什么東西lame就是說沒有意思，無聊。還有什么事情你 覺得是無聊的?
M：Saturday morning classes are lame!
L：你是說星期六早上上課是個餿主意?
M：Yes, having class on a weekend is lame because it's a silly idea.
L：對，我也同意，周末上課太沒勁了!誰出的這個主意，是夠傻的。
L：對了，Michael，上回你交不出家庭作業(yè)也找了個很牽強的借口，你當時是怎么對教授說的?
M：I told our professor that my dog ate my homework. Yes, I agree, that was a lame excuse.
L：對了，你對教授說你的狗把你的家庭作業(yè)給吃了。誰都不會相信你這種話。那你剛才不想來看歌舞劇，借口說沒錢，那也是lame excuse?
M：Yes, it was an inadequate excuse because I do have money.
L：我知道你有錢，只是為了不想看歌舞劇而找個借口才說沒錢的。
M：You can also say...
L：行了，行了，我懂了。別說話了，演出開始了。
M：Ok, but don't give me any lame excuses next time I want to do something!
L：下回不管你要干什么，我絕對不會用這種牽強的借口。
M：Seriously, after buying these tickets I really am broke!
L：買了這兩張票，你真的沒錢啦?得，下回我請客。
Michael 和李華在今天的對話里用了broke這個詞，broke在這里的意思是沒有錢了。他們還用了一個詞：lame，意思是無聊，沒有意思，或者是不合適的。
