專四聽力第21課：Hit；To Roll

　　在紐約上大學(xué)的Michael明天要考試，可是他的中國同學(xué)李華一定要他去參加一個聚會。李華今天學(xué)到的兩個常用語是：hit 和to roll。

　　L：Michael，你答應(yīng)跟我一起來參加聚會，我得謝謝你呀!你知道嗎，我不太習(xí)慣在這種場合和那些不認識的人交談。嗨，Michael，那不是你的朋友Steve嗎?我聽說，只要有party他一定參加。

　　M: Yeah, he's the hit of all these parties.

　　L：他是什么?Hit，Hit不是打人嗎?

　　M: No, "hit" here means he is the most popular person at these parties. "Hit" is a word used to describe someone or something that makes a favorable impression.

　　L：啊呀，英文可真難學(xué)。一個詞在這里是這個意思，在那里又變了意思。你說的hit是指大家都很喜歡的人。那hit用做這個意思的時候能指東西嗎?

　　M: Yeah, things can also be called a hit. For instance, you can say "that song is a hit with teenagers".

　　L：對了，有的歌曲非常熱門，這也能稱為hit。你剛才說：“That song is a hit with teeangers”， 意思是：“青少年特別喜歡的一首歌。” 這么說，“年輕人喜歡的一首歌”就是……

　　M: That song is a hit with young people.

　　L：一個受歡迎的電視節(jié)目也能說是hit嗎?

　　M: Yes, you can! A hit TV program.

　　L：Michael，我聽說好多女孩兒都很喜歡你!

　　M: No, that's not true!

　　L：我認識的女孩都說你很帥!我想她們那么喜歡你，你恐怕還不知道自己是a hit with girls!

　　M: Oh, stop it, Li Hua! You're embarrassing me.

　　L：喲，你還會不好意思吶!得了，去拿點東西吃吧，我餓了。

　　L：Michael，我們來了有兩個小時了吧!我倒是認識了幾個很有意思的人。

　　M: Yeah, the people here are pretty cool, but I'm getting tired. I've got a test tomorrow that I haven't prepared for yet. Do you think we can go pretty soon?

　　L：對，這兒的人都挺好。怎么啦，你累了，想走了?我知道，你還沒有準(zhǔn)備好明天的考試。其實，我也有點累了。我們隨時都可以走。

　　M: Okay, let's roll!

　　L：什么?Let's roll?滾回去啊?

　　M: Oh no, "let's roll" here means "let's leave!"

　　L：To roll也能表示要離開?

　　M: Yes, if you're doing one thing, you can say "to roll" when you want to start something new.

　　L：等等，讓我看看我是不是懂你的意思了。要是你在做一件事，過了一會兒，你不想繼續(xù)做下去，而是想做別的事了，這時你就可以說to roll。

　　M: That's correct.

　　L：怪不得上次開舞會的時候，我們班上的那個高個子George對他的女朋友說：Let's roll!后來我聽說他們?nèi)タ措娪傲?。?dāng)時我還聽不懂let's roll是什么意思。

　　M: "Let's roll" is very popular, especially among young people. Well, Li Hua, I really do think it's time to roll.

　　L：好吧。不過，剛才跟我說話的那個人告訴我，一會兒有一位名歌手會來唱歌。Michael，等他唱完一首歌再走，好不好?

　　M ：A hit singer will be coming? I'd like to stay, but I really have to prepare for my test.

　　L：那好吧!

　　M+L：Let's roll!

　　今天李華學(xué)的一個常用語是：hit，這是指受歡迎的，人們喜歡的人或東西;另一個常用語是：to roll，也就是開始準(zhǔn)備做一件事。
