The head of the Eurogroup Jean-Claude Juncker says he's totally opposed to Greece being forced out of the single currency. Mr Juncker said the priority was for the country to come up with a robust and critical strategy for closing the gap on its debt.

"I'm totally opposed to the exit of Greece from the euro area. This would be of no help for Greece, and this would entail major risks for the whole euro area. And if those who are advocating day after day the exit of Greece would keep them off, it would be easier to make the progress that's needed in the privatization of those enterprises which have to be privatized."

Police in Kenya say almost 50 people have been killed in clashes in the east of the country. The victims who were burnt or hacked to death were mainly women and children. It's the most deadly outbreak of violence in Kenya since disputed elections five years ago. The fighting between rival communities is reported to have begun over land and grazing rights. Grant Ferrett reports.

Kenya suffers sporadic violence between ethnic groups, often related to grazing rights for cattle. But this is thought to be one of the deadliest clashes since a wave of killings that followed disputed elections five years ago. The exact number of casualty is still unclear. Most of those who died were women and children. They were hacked and burnt to death. The confrontations took place in a town of river area between villages from the Pokomo community and Orma herdsmen .

The Syrian military is reported to have intensified its offense against opposition forces in the south of the capital Damascus. Residents say it's some of the heaviest fighting since the army reasserted its control of the city last month. Opposition activists say more than 40 have been killed in a bombardment by tanks and aircraft.

Photographs showing Queen Elizabeth's grandson Prince Harry and a young woman cavorting naked in a Las Vegas hotel room have been published on a US website. Our royal correspondent Nicholas Witchell repots.

Harry had gone to Las Vegas with friends on a short break from his military duties. At some point last weekend in what should have been the privacy of his hotel suit, he evidently decided to play a game of "strip billiards" with some women he and his friends had met in the hotel bar. Photographs were taken – it's thought by someone with a mobile phone; and these pictures, showing Harry naked, were then published by an American gossip website and some sections of the mainstream US media. Friends of Prince Harry say this was a young soldier letting his hair down before returning to duty; whether his family sees it in those straightforward terms may be open to question.

The South African President Jacob Zuma has been given a cool reception by striking workers at a platinum mine where 34 people were shot dead last week in a dispute over pay. He told a crowd of several hundred people in the town of Marikana that he was sorry for what had happened and promised to speed up an official investigation into the shootings. The dispute has highlighted a widening gap between rich and poor in South Africa which correspondents say is undermining support for the governing African National Congress.

The United Nations has said the Secretary General Ban Ki-moon will attend a summit of non-aligned developing nations in Iran next week despite calls by the United States and Israel to boycott the event. A spokesman said Mr Ban would use the meeting to raise international concerns about Iran's nuclear program, human rights and the crisis in Syria. From the UN, here's Nada Tawfik.

Recent remarks by Iran's leaders calling in question the Holocaust and Israel's existence have increased pressure on Ban Ki-moon to isolate Iran. Last week, Mr Ban condemned the statement as offensive and inflammatory . But today in New York, his spokesperson said not attending the summit and talks with Iran's leaders would be a missed opportunity. Negotiations with Iran over its nuclear program have yet to produce an agreement. During a Security Council briefing on Wednesday, the Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs said it appeared Iran may be exporting arms to Syria. Mr Ban's spokesman said the trip would allow the Secretary General to make clear to the Iranian leadership what was expected from Tehran.

An international scientific study suggests that the children of older fathers are at greater risk of suffering some form of mental disorder. The research, published in the journal Nature, says men who have children at 40 pass on twice as many genetic mutations to their offspring as fathers aged 20.
