4月19日，在清華大學(xué)建校110周年校慶日即將來臨之際，中共中央總書記、國家主席、中央軍委主席習(xí)近平來到清華大學(xué)考察。習(xí)近平在考察時(shí)強(qiáng)調(diào)，要堅(jiān)持中國特色世界一流大學(xué)建設(shè)目標(biāo)方向，我國高等教育要為服務(wù)國家富強(qiáng)、民族復(fù)興、人民幸福貢獻(xiàn)力量。
President Xi Jinping stressed adhering to the direction of building world-class universities with Chinese characteristics as he visited Tsinghua University on April 19 ahead of its 110th anniversary. Xi, who is also general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, said China's higher education should make contributions to the prosperity of the country, the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation and the well-being of the people.

高水平大學(xué)是一個(gè)國家綜合國力和科學(xué)文化水平的重要標(biāo)志，是國家核心競爭力的有力支撐，在引領(lǐng)經(jīng)濟(jì)社會(huì)發(fā)展中發(fā)揮著巨大作用。從上世紀(jì)90年代至今，我國高水平大學(xué)建設(shè)之路行穩(wěn)致遠(yuǎn)，培養(yǎng)了大批高素質(zhì)專業(yè)人才。如今，我國高等教育在學(xué)總規(guī)模已經(jīng)穩(wěn)居世界第一，2020年高等教育毛入學(xué)率達(dá)54.4%，成為名副其實(shí)的高等教育大國。
2015年8月18日，中央全面深化改革領(lǐng)導(dǎo)小組第十五次會(huì)議審議通過《統(tǒng)籌推進(jìn)世界一流大學(xué)和一流學(xué)科建設(shè)總體方案》，推動(dòng)實(shí)現(xiàn)我國從高等教育大國到高等教育強(qiáng)國的歷史性跨越。根據(jù)《總體方案》，到2030年，更多的大學(xué)和學(xué)科進(jìn)入世界一流行列，若干所大學(xué)進(jìn)入世界一流大學(xué)前列，一批學(xué)科進(jìn)入世界一流學(xué)科前列；到本世紀(jì)中葉，一流大學(xué)和一流學(xué)科的數(shù)量和實(shí)力進(jìn)入世界前列，基本建成高等教育強(qiáng)國。

一個(gè)國家的高等教育體系需要有一流大學(xué)群體的有力支撐。一流大學(xué)建設(shè)要堅(jiān)持黨的領(lǐng)導(dǎo)，堅(jiān)持馬克思主義指導(dǎo)地位。
