I am not superstitious, are you? 

我不迷信，你呢？

Yesterday was Friday the 13th. Some people think that Friday the 13th is an unlucky day. I think that it is just like any other day. Some people believe that if a black cat crosses your path, you will have bad luck. I don't believe that either. My mother always gets upset if I open an umbrella in the house. She says that is bad luck. She is probably right about that one because an open umbrella would take up a lot of space and you might knock things over. 

昨天是 13 號(hào)星期五。有些人認(rèn)為 13 號(hào)星期五是個(gè)不吉利的日子。我認(rèn)為它和其他日子沒(méi)什么不同。有些人認(rèn)為如果有一只黑貓從你面前經(jīng)過(guò)，你就會(huì)倒霉。我也不相信。如果我在家里撐開(kāi)雨傘，我媽媽總是會(huì)不高興。她說(shuō)那會(huì)帶來(lái)厄運(yùn)。她可能說(shuō)對(duì)了，因?yàn)閾伍_(kāi)的雨傘會(huì)占用很多空間，你可能會(huì)撞倒東西。

If your left hand is itchy, you are supposed to get money. I have had an itchy left hand before, but I haven't received any money because of it. It is bad to walk under a ladder. That is probably true because you might knock somebody off the ladder or have a can of paint fall on top of you. 

如果你的左手發(fā)癢，你就應(yīng)該得到錢。我以前左手發(fā)癢過(guò)，但我沒(méi)有因此得到任何錢。從梯子下面走過(guò)是不好的，這可能是真的，因?yàn)槟憧赡軙?huì)把別人從梯子上撞下來(lái)，或者油漆會(huì)掉在你身上。

If you are acting in a play, it is bad luck if someone says "good luck" to you. This is very confusing. You are supposed to tell an actor to "break a leg", it doesn't mean you want the actor to break his leg, it means good luck to the actor. Actors have a lot of superstitions that are very unusual. 

如果你在演戲，如果有人直接對(duì)你說(shuō)“祝你好運(yùn)”，那就是厄運(yùn)，這很令人困惑。你應(yīng)該告訴演員“break a leg”，這并不意味著你希望演員摔斷腿，這意味著祝演員好運(yùn)。演員有很多非常不尋常的迷信。

I am not superstitious, I don't believe in superstitions at all. It is just fun to learn about superstitions. Some of them are very old and have been passed down from generation to generation. I once did a project at school on superstitions. It was a very interesting topic and I got a good mark for it.
