[00:04.78]2.Waiting for ages!

[00:11.94]I know it might sound strange,

[00:17.82]but recently I’ve started thinking about what the places you arrange to meet say about you.

[00:25.26]Let me give you an example of what I mean. The other day,

[00:30.90]I arranged to meet a friend of mine outside the post office in Moss Side.

[00:37.36]a particularly rough area of Manchester. My friend was late-as usual.

[00:45.40]I had to wait for half an hour in the street.

[00:50.05]watching the police dreive by and the rain come down. While I was there,

[00:56.82]two people asked me for money and a big guy came up to me and said:

[01:03.37]What are you looking at? I suddenly thought:What am I doing here?

[01:11.31]This is terrible place to meet!

[01:15.76]When I was younger,I used to meet people at bus stops

[01:22.00]because I didn’t want my parents to see who I was going out with.

[01:27.46]I didn’t want to meet in a bar because if I was the first one there,

[01:33.62]I’d look lonely and the manager might ask me my age.

[01:39.58]Now that I’m older and don’t live with my parents.

[01:44.75]I don’t care if I have to sit in a cafe or somewhere like that by myself.

[01:51.41]I’d rather look at bit lonely than be outside, getting cold and wet.

[01:57.66]The friend I met the other day is always worried about being left on her own in a bar,

[02:05.70]so I had to wait in the street,When she finally turned up.

[02:11.76]we had our typical opening conversation.

[02:16.52]Jane There you are.I was begining to worry.

[02:21.48]Sorry I’m late.The traffic was awful.The excuse can very,but it’s never;

[02:28.61]I’m sorry,I’m completely hopeless.

[02:33.47]I was basically just wasting time window shopping because I wanted to make sure you were here first

[02:41.54]so that I didn’t have to wait around for you.

[02:45.98]And then I say: Oh,well.never mind.At least you’re here now.

[02:53.64]Have you been waiting long? She asks.No.only five minutes.

[03:00.48]And off we go.I suppose I should get angry.

[03:06.54]but I don’t want so spold the evening.I guess it’s sign that I must be getting old.

[03:13.91]6.Pronunciation:weak forms

[03:42.98]in front of your hotel

[03:46.46]the other side of the ticket barriers

[03:50.22]at the front by the taxi rank

[03:54.19]at the end of your road

[03:57.84]at the check-in desk

[04:01.01]1.Shall I meet you at the airport,then? Yeah,Whereabouts?

[04:11.87]Oh,I’ll meet you at the check-in desk.OK?

[05:48.68]I’m easy.It’s up to you,really.it is you birthday.after all.

[06:00.20]How about going to see that musical which is on at the King’s?

[06:06.08]We could do,I suppose.Oh,no.that’s supposed to be awful.

[06:12.32]A friend of mine went and she left halfway through.

[06:17.00]Oh.right.OK.well.how about Ben’s cafe?They do jazz on a Wednesday.

[06:25.85]Yeah,we could do Ben’s if you want.Oh,Ben’s!Please.no!

[06:32.70]The food in that place is so expensive, and you only get tiny little portions.

[06:39.86]Anyway.I hate jazz.I’d rather go somewhere else.if we can.

[06:45.00]Yeah,well.it’s not your birthday!

[06:49.68]Anyway.I thought you said you weren’t bothered what we did.

[06:54.64]No.it’s all right if Jamie would prefer to do something else.

[07:00.10]Listen,I’ve had an idea

[07:04.07]do you fancy going bowling? There’s that bowing place in Moortown.

[07:10.84]Oh,yeah!I know the one.I’ve been there before. It’s really good.

[07:16.90]Yeah.sounds fine.OK.great.Let’s do that,then.

[07:50.13]Do you want to give them a ring and tell them what we’re doing?

[07:54.57]Yeah,Where shall I tell them to meet us?

[07:59.53]You know where it is,don’t you?

[08:03.40]Yeah,I think so.It’s just near the station, isn’t it?On Otley Road.
