“Wow，” said Jack， picking up the book.“The ninja book was open yesterday. Now this one.Who opened them?”
Jack closed the book and looked at the cover.
It showed a picture of a green forest. The trees were very tall and close together.
On the cover were the words The Rain Forest.
“Oh， wow，” said Jack.
“Oh， no，” said Annie.
“What’s wrong?” said Jack.
“I learned about the rain forest in school，” said Annie. “It’s filled with big bugs and spiders.”
“I know，” said Jack.“Half of them have never even been named.”
“It’s creepy，” said Annie.
“It’s neat，” said Jack. He wanted to take lots of notes in the rain forest. Maybe he could even name some unknown bugs.
“Neat? Yuk，” said Annie. She shivered.
“I don’t get it，” said Jack. “You weren’t afraid of dinosaurs.”
“So?”
“You weren’t afraid of the castle guards or the mummy’s ghost.”
“So?”
“You weren’t afraid of pirates or ninjas.”
“So?”
“You’re not afraid of really scary things. But you’re afraid of little bugs and spiders. That doesn’t make sense.”
“So?”
Jack sighed. “Listen，” he said. “We have to go there. To help Morgan. That’s why the book was left open.”
“I know that，” said Annie， frowning.
“Plus， the rain forests are being cut down，” said Jack. “Don’t you want to see one before it’s too late?”
Annie took a deep breath and slowly nodded.
“Okay， then， let’s go，” said Jack.
He opened the book again. He pointed to a picture that showed blue sky， green leaves， and bright flowers.
“I wish we could go there，” he said.
The wind began to blow.
Squeak.
“Stay here， Peanut，” said Annie as she put the mouse in her pocket.
The wind picked up. The tree house started to spin.
Jack squeezed his eyes shut.
The wind was whistling now. The tree house was spinning faster and faster.
Then everything was still.
Absolutely still.
Wild sounds broke the silence.
Screeeeeech!
Buzzzzzzz!
Chirp! Chirp!
2巨大的臭蟲
“喔!”杰克拿起那本書叫道，“昨天那本日本忍者的書也是自己翻開的，現(xiàn)在又是這一本，到底是誰(shuí)打開它們的呢?”
杰克把書合上開始看它的封面，封面上畫著一個(gè)綠色的森林，上面的樹特別特別的高，而且十分茂密。封面上寫著：熱帶雨林。
“哇塞!”杰克興奮地說(shuō)。
“噢，我可不想去!”安妮說(shuō)。
“怎么啦?”杰克問道。
“我在學(xué)校聽說(shuō)過(guò)熱帶雨林!”安妮說(shuō)，“那里面到處都是巨大的臭蟲和蜘蛛!”
“我知道!”杰克說(shuō)，“它們中的一半甚至連名字都沒有呢!”
“那里毛骨悚然!”安妮說(shuō)。
“那里可是個(gè)好去處!”杰克說(shuō)道。他想在熱帶雨林里做很多很多筆記，說(shuō)不定還能自己命名幾個(gè)不為人知的蟲子呢。
“好去處?!呃……”安妮說(shuō)。她已經(jīng)開始發(fā)抖了。
“我可真不明白。”杰克說(shuō)，“你當(dāng)時(shí)一點(diǎn)兒也不怕恐龍!”
“那又怎么樣?”安妮說(shuō)。
“你也沒怕過(guò)城堡的衛(wèi)兵和木乃伊的鬼魂!”
“那又怎么樣?”
“你也沒怕過(guò)海盜和日本忍者!”
“那又怎么樣?”
“你一點(diǎn)兒都不怕那些真正讓人害怕的東西。但是你卻怕小蟲子和蜘蛛!真讓人不理解!”
“那又怎么樣?”
杰克嘆了口氣。
“聽著。”他說(shuō)，“我們必須去那兒，去幫助摩根。這就是為什么這本書被打開并放在這兒的原因。”
“我知道!”安妮皺著眉頭說(shuō)。
“再說(shuō)了啦，熱帶雨林現(xiàn)在正在被不斷地砍伐。”杰克說(shuō)，“難道你不想趁它被毀掉之前去看看嗎?”
安妮深深地吸了口氣，然后慢慢地點(diǎn)了點(diǎn)頭。
“OK，那我們現(xiàn)在就出發(fā)吧!”杰克說(shuō)。
杰克再一次打開了那本書。他指著一幅畫著藍(lán)天、綠葉和漂亮花朵的圖片說(shuō)：
“我希望我們能去那兒!”
風(fēng)吹了起來(lái)。
吱吱。吱吱。
“就呆在這兒，花生。”安妮一邊把小老鼠塞進(jìn)口袋里一邊說(shuō)。
風(fēng)速越來(lái)越快了，樹屋開始打轉(zhuǎn)。
杰克把眼睛緊緊地閉了起來(lái)。
風(fēng)聲呼呼作響，樹屋轉(zhuǎn)得越來(lái)越快。
然后一切都平靜了。
絕對(duì)的平靜。
野生動(dòng)物的叫聲打破了四周的寧?kù)o。
咿咿!
嗡嗡!
唧唧!
