名詞cattle 的用法

1. cattle是cows, bulls, oxen 等的總稱，雖為單數(shù)形式，但總表示復數(shù)意義；若用作主語，謂語要用復數(shù)；可受 many 修飾，但不能用 much 修飾。如：

On big farms cattle are usually branded. 大農(nóng)場里的牛通常打有烙印。

Many cattle are suffering from a disease called BSE. 許多牛得了瘋牛病。

2. 要表示“牛”的頭數(shù)，可借助 head（單復數(shù)同形）。如：

twelve head of cattle 12 頭牛

56 head of cattle 56 頭牛

當所表示的數(shù)量為十、百、千時，可省略其中的 head of。如：

thirty (head of) cattle 30 頭牛

100 (head of) cattle 100 頭牛

3. a herd of cattle 與 a head of cattle 不同，前者指“一群牛”，后者指“一頭牛”。
