Hi! Welcome to class for today. Our slang today isabout "busting. Alright. So what does "bust" mean
歡迎來到今天的課程。我們今天的俚語是關(guān)于bust的。它是什么意思呢?
So if you throw a balloon that's full of water and itexplodes everywhere, you just "busted" thatballoon
如果你扔一個(gè)充滿水的氣球,然后它爆炸了,你打碎了那個(gè)氣球
You can bust a tire if a nail goes into it…so yeah.Bust means "break" or "explode"
你可以把釘子釘進(jìn)去使一個(gè)輪胎爆炸。Bust的意思就是打破,爆炸的意思
However, if you have been "busted," it means you have been exposed
如果你被busted了,它的意思就是你被暴露了。
Your plan, which was probably very carefully planned and arranged, like a beautiful building, hasexploded
你的計(jì)劃,可能是通過很多計(jì)劃和安排的,就像一個(gè)漂亮的建筑爆炸了
and everyone can see what you were trying to do
所有人都知道了你想做什么
It's easy to get busted while robbing a bank, or trying to sneak out of the house to see a movie
在搶劫銀行或者從家里溜出去看電影都比較容易被暴露并且抓住
These are all plans, you would expect them to go some way, and all of a sudden someone seesit
就是關(guān)于你所期待的計(jì)劃在進(jìn)行,但是突然有人看到了
someone exposes it, and *pwwh*, it's ruined. It'll never work
有人揭發(fā)了你的計(jì)劃,這樣你的計(jì)劃就被破壞了
It's the most frustrating, I think, when you're trying to plan a surprise party for your friend
這是很讓人沮喪的。當(dāng)你試著去給你的朋友一個(gè)驚喜派對(duì)的時(shí)候
and suddenly you're busted when your friend hears you talking to someone about what kind ofcake to get
突然你在跟別人商量買什么蛋糕的時(shí)候被人聽見了,被揭發(fā)了
After a plan is exposed like that, it is bust.
當(dāng)一個(gè)計(jì)劃被揭發(fā)了之后,它就沒用了
It is useless. Or even if the plan just didn't work like you hoped, you can still call it "bust"
如果一個(gè)計(jì)劃沒有實(shí)現(xiàn),你也可以叫它bust
For example, you can hear, "wow, that party was supposed to be a lot of fun, but it turned outto be a bust because no one came"
例如,你可能會(huì)聽到 "那個(gè)派對(duì)本應(yīng)該是很有意思的,但是它失敗了,因?yàn)闆]有人來參加"
Or, "well, my mom saw me climbing out the window, to watch that movie with you, so I guessthat plan is a bust
或者 "我媽媽看到了我從窗戶爬出去去和你看電影,所以我想這個(gè)計(jì)劃泡湯了
So remember, "busted": you have been exposed, someone has discovered your plan, andafterwards, the plan itself is a bust
記住,busted的意思是你被揭發(fā)了,有人發(fā)現(xiàn)了你的計(jì)劃,然后計(jì)劃就泡湯了
Sentence structure. Here is our example: "As in everything, there are difficulties in buying a car"
現(xiàn)在是句型。這是我們今天的例句"總之,買一輛車有很多難題
As in everything, there are A's in B. So you're saying that lots of things have "A's"
總之,在B里有很多A。所以你說的是很多都有A
And the example that you're using right now is B. So here's another one
總之,在城市里居住有一些問題
As in everything, there are problems with living in the city
現(xiàn)在所用的例句是關(guān)于B的。另外一個(gè)例子是
Lots of things have problems (A's) just like living in the city (B)
很多事都有問題(A),就像居住在城市里(B)
And I know those two sentences are both bad things, but there are also good sentences
我知道這兩句話都是比較消極的,但是也有正面的句子
"As in everything, there are good sides to dropping out of college"
總之,退學(xué)也有它自己的優(yōu)勢(shì)
So you can use the sentence for negative, and for positives
你可以把句子用在正面和負(fù)面的話題上
But you're talking about a aspect of an example
但是你是在講一個(gè)例子的一個(gè)方面
A aspect applies to a whole range of things. Why don' you try making a sentence
一個(gè)方面包含一系列的事物。你也來試試吧
Our etymology for today is "imag-" or "image." I think I just gave away one of the words
我們今天的詞源是imag或者image。我想我剛剛已經(jīng)透露了一個(gè)單詞了。
But the root is spelled I-M-A-G. This is Latin for "representation," "likeness," "picture,"appearance"
詞根是imag。在拉丁語里的意思是表現(xiàn),圖畫,外觀
So I-M-A-G is a picture of something. For example
所以imag是某物的一個(gè)圖片。
this video is a representation of me, but it's not actually me
例如這個(gè)視頻是我的一個(gè)表現(xiàn),但是它不是我。
So this kind of moves into our first word, "image"
所以這就說到了我們第一個(gè)詞,image。
You know what it means. It's a picture, or just the visual of something
你知道它的意思吧,是一張圖,或者是一個(gè)物體的視覺呈現(xiàn)
Because it is representing something, but it's not the actual thing
它是某物的展現(xiàn),但不是某物本身
And you can have mental images, too, and this is called imagery
你也可以有心里的影像。這叫做imagery(意象)
We talk about imagery a lot in English class
我們?cè)谟⒄Z課上討論很多關(guān)于意象的問題
When you read a book and someone starts talking about this beautiful dinner that they had
當(dāng)你讀一本書的時(shí)候某人開始講關(guān)于他們吃過的一頓特別美好的晚餐
with juicy turkey lying on the table, surrounded by lots of baked potatoes and ..oh, I'm gettinghungry
餐桌上有多汁的火雞,周圍還有很多烤土豆。。。我餓了
Because I have imagery in my head, I can see the pictures that you're talking about
因?yàn)槲业哪X海里有意象,我可以看到你所說的視覺呈現(xiàn)
And yes, these pictures are imaginary. They're just in my head. They're not real
當(dāng)然這些圖是意象的,它們只在我腦海里。他們不是真的
And all these imaginary pictures are part of your imagination
這些意象的圖都是你想象的一部分
the ability to form images and ideas in your head
想象力是可以在你的腦海里組成圖和想法的。
They represent something that could be real, but they're not
它們呈現(xiàn)的是一些可以為真實(shí)的事物,但是它們的出現(xiàn)是虛構(gòu)的
And if you have a lot of imagination, it means you are very imaginative
如果你有很多想象力,你是一個(gè)很富有想象力的人。
You can put lots of pictures in your head. You have that ability
你可以在腦海里存放很多圖片,你有這種能力
So that is our etymology for today
這就是我們今天的詞源。
Hope you liked the class today
希望你喜歡今天的課。
