51 富蘭克林在海灘 Franklin AT THE SEASHORE

  Franklin at the Seashore

Franklin could count by twos and tie his shoes. He had lots of friends and he enjoyed meeting new ones. But one day a misunderstanding got in the way of a friendship.

  Wow!/Whoa!

Gee Franklin, we’ve got the whole beach of ourselves!

Do you boys think it’s big enough to share with us?

What do you think bear? Can they stay?

Are you kidding? They’ve got the picnic basket! Of course they can!

Come on bear! Last one in is a puppy!

Hey, you got a head start!

Make sure you stay where we can see you!

Franklin! Come see what I found! Look! Seashells!

Wow!… If you put one up to your ear you can hear the ocean.

Hm… I can’t hear anything. The real ocean is making too much noise!

Hey, let’s use these on our castle!

  Okay!

This big shell can be the castle door.

And these are the guards. The king wants to know why you ate all his cookies? Because I’m shellfish.

  Shellfish.

Franklin! Bear! It’s time for our lunch!

Oh boy! Wahoo! Wait for me bear!

  Franklin, look at our castle!

  Someone wrecked it!

And they took all our shells!

  Look! There are some tracks.

Gee, who leaves tracks like those?

Whoever took our shells, that’s who! Come on! Let’s follow them.

This be a good place to hide our booty.

Our booty! What does that mean?

  That’s pirate talk for treasure.

  They’ve got our shells, Bear!

These be ours and nobody else’s. They’ll be safe in our secret hide-away.

  Quick bear, grab our shells.

  Okay…Let’s get out of here.

  Our shells are gone!

And I bet I know who took them.

Let’s build a new castle father away.

Yeah, somewhere where those crabs won’t bother us.

  This is the flag!

And I’ll put a guard up here to keep an eye on our shells.

I think I like this castle better than our old one.

Yeah, me too…let’s see if we can find a piece of wood for a drawbridge.

Okay! And let’s get some cookies for the King of the castle.

  Do we have a king?

  Yes, me.

  Oh, bear.

  Oh, no!

  Not again!

  I can’t believe these crabs.

Where are their tracks this time?

I don’t know. But I know where their hideout is. Come on.

Come on, hurry up and cover our tracks!

  I’m hurrying! I’m hurrying!

  Oops, sorry.

  I’ll check their hideout, bear.

Do you see our shells in there?

  Their shells?/shhh!

Aww, no, there’s nothing in there.

I guess we’ll just have to build a castle without shells.

  Aaaaachooo!/ No!

  Whoa!—whoa!

Hey, our shells./ hah ha! I knew it!

  Hey! Stop! /Put those down!

  They did it again!

Okay! From now on, one of us always stays with the castle.

What if we want to go swimming?

Hmmm… you’re right. It’s no fun playing in the water by yourself…

Hey I know! Let’s build our next castle right in front of mom and dad.

Good thinking. We’ll let them be the castle guards.

  Uh oh.

  Yoohoo! Boys….

  So much for that idea.

Look, Franklin! Why don’t we go to that island?

Perfect! Come on, let’s ask mom.

Okay! The crabs won’t find us out there!

  Are you boys having fun?

We’re trying to. Mom, can we play on that island?

  You mean your father?

No, the other island. The one that’s not snoring.

Sure. Maybe you’ll find some treasure.

We’ve already found our treasure. We just want a safe place to keep it.

  Wow! Our own island!

This is better than the beach any day.

Come on. Let’s put our shells over there and go exploring.

  Land ahoy! We’re almost there.

  Don’t lean farward!

  Sorry.

Phew! I hope you won’t get tired on the way back.

I’m not carrying you and my shells too.

  Wow! It’s neat out here!

  Come on! let’s go exploring.

I’m going to rest first. I’ll catch up with you.

Aye, aye captain! I’ll just look to see if I can spot these shell smugglers!

  Ahhh!

  Uh oh!

  Oh no! They got him!

  No, they didn’t.

  Huh?… where are you?

  Down here!

  I slipped.

You scared me. Come on out of there.

  I can’t. I’m stuck.

Here, grab my claw. Reach a little further.

  I’m trying to.

I’ve almost got you! A little further!

It’s no use. I can’t get you out.

  Oh no!

Now what are we going to do?

I’ll have to go and get help.

Gee, bear, if you know someone needs help. You’ve gotta help them.

Yeah… even if they did take your shells.

I know they started it. But why don’t we try to end it?

  Yeah, you’re right, Franklin.

Hi! Guys! Don’t worry, we’ll have you out in a jiffy! Can you lift that rock a bit bear? Are you okay?

  Yeah, thanks…

Gee, I didn’t think you guys would ever help us.

  Why did you think that?

Because you kept stealing our shells.

Huh? Your shells? Those shells are ours! We found them!

Did you find them all in a pile?

  Yeah/ Yes.

They were in a pile because we were playing with them.

Gee, Franklin, I guess we started it.

  I guess we did… sorry.

That’s okay. We’re sorry for messing up your sandcastles.

Yeah, we should have talked to you right at the start.

And we should have talked to you.

Hey, I know. Let’s start all over and do it the right way this time.

Hello, my name’s bear and this is my friend Franklin.

Hi. /Hi. We’re the Crab Brothers.

  Hi.

Do you guys want to play with us?

  That’d be great!/ okay!

Yeah, we’ve got some shells. Do you want to build a sand castle?

  Sure! come on!
