Such is the endlessness, yea, the intolerableness of all earthly effort.

捕鯨如此，人生亦如此啊!

噢，我太愛(ài)這廣闊的大海了!

how I spurned that turnpike earth!

我痛恨陸地上那些印滿了奴隸的腳印和騾馬的鐵蹄的大道，

that common highway all over dented with the marks of slavish heels and hoofs; and turned meto admire the magnanimity of the sea which will permit no records.

我痛恨那些據(jù)道為障收取通行稅的人，我愛(ài)大海，大海上沒(méi)有路，又到處都是路，而且永遠(yuǎn)不會(huì)有任何路的痕跡。
