① for example和for instance都是介詞短語(yǔ)，意為“例如，比如”，這兩個(gè)短語(yǔ)在句中的位置較靈活，可以放在句首、句中或句尾，可用作獨(dú)立成分，通常用逗號(hào)與所修飾的部分隔開(kāi)，它們?？蓳Q用，但強(qiáng)調(diào)“代表”意義時(shí)，多用for example。這兩個(gè)短語(yǔ)用來(lái)列舉同類中的一個(gè)為例，可以是一個(gè)句子，也可以是單詞詞組。

Many great men have risen from poverty，for example，Lincoln and Edison. 許多偉人出身貧寒，例如林肯和愛(ài)迪生。（可用for instance）

What would you do if you met a wild animal—a tiger，for instance？要是遇到一頭野獸，比如老虎，你會(huì)怎么辦？（可用for example）

② such as也作“例如”解，用來(lái)列舉事物，對(duì)前面提到的名詞進(jìn)行列舉說(shuō)明，放在名詞與被列舉的事物之間。such后通常跟名詞，也可以跟介詞短語(yǔ)，不定式等。such as用來(lái)列舉同類中的幾個(gè)，但不是全部。such as引導(dǎo)的成分作同位語(yǔ)。

He speaks several languages，such as English，F(xiàn)rench and Japanese. 他會(huì)說(shuō)幾種外語(yǔ)，比如英語(yǔ)、法語(yǔ)和日語(yǔ)。

such as不能同and so on連用，不能說(shuō)such as Jim，Jack and so on。

③ namely（=that is=i.e.）是副詞，意為“即，也就是”，放在被列舉的事物前，要把前面的名詞所應(yīng)包含的事物全部列出；namely前面需要有逗號(hào)，后面可以不用逗號(hào)。

He speaks four languages，namely English，F(xiàn)rench，German and Russia. 他說(shuō)四種語(yǔ)言，即英語(yǔ)、法語(yǔ)、德語(yǔ)和俄語(yǔ)。
