Do you want to change the world? Start off by making your bed. There's nothing cute or easy or funny about discipline, especially when it comes to the subject of self-control. However, if you make your bed every morning, you will have accomplished the first task of the day. It will give you a small sense of pride. And it will encourage you to do another task and another and another after that.

你想改變世界嗎?從早上整理床鋪開始做起。自律,尤其是自控力,不是什么好玩的、容易的、有趣的事情。然而,如果你每天早上都能整理床鋪,你就完成了每天的第一個任務(wù)。這會給你一點自豪感,而且會鼓勵你繼續(xù)完成一個又一個任務(wù)。

And by the end of the day that one task completed will have turned into many different tasks completed. Clean up your room. That's a great start. Organize your local landscape. Schedule your time. Start taking control of yourself. I think you should stop looking for the quantum leap and start looking for the daily discipline, because that's where the breakthrough lives. When you make your bed, you have already done something for the day. You've already accomplished something even though it's small. Just accomplishing one little thing can propel you to do the next thing and the next thing and the next thing.

一天過去,那個任務(wù)完成了,其他的任務(wù)也就完成了。打掃你的房間,這是個很好的開始。規(guī)劃你的房間布局,計劃你的時間,開始掌控自己。我認(rèn)為,你應(yīng)該停止幻想一步登天,你要開始尋找每天的自律,因為這樣才會有突破。當(dāng)你整理你的床鋪時,你已經(jīng)做了一天中的一件事了,你已經(jīng)完成了一件事,雖然它是一件小事。完成一件小事,可以鼓勵你去做下一件事,下一件事,再下一件事。

But if you only plan your pleasure and you don't ever plan on having any pain, if you've spent all of your life trying to avoid everything that's uncomfortable, I can just tell you right now, you're gonna have one wretched miserable life. You're gonna be old and all you're gonna have is regrets. So ask yourself, am I practicing self-discipline in my life? Am I doing the things that I should do because I need to do them? Or am I kind of waiting to feel the moment out? The things that you do and that you don't do are far more important than you think. We can do something extraordinary with our lives, but you need to discipline yourself every day.

但是,如果你只對享樂做規(guī)劃,而不對艱苦做規(guī)劃,如果你一輩子都在逃避令你不適的東西,我現(xiàn)在就可以告訴你,你將會度過可憐又悲慘的一生。你會變老,你只會擁有悔恨。所以,問問自己,我每天都做到自律了嗎?我正在做的事情,是不是我需要做、所以該做的?還是說,我只是在虛度時間而已?你做的事和你不做的事,比你想的重要得多。在生命中,我們可以做到一些非凡的事情,但是你需要每天都做到自律。

Greatness will cost you something, not somebody else. It'll cost you something. It's going to cost you some time. It's going to cost you some energy. It's going to cost you some sacrifice. It might cost you some resources. It might cost you some hours of your life laying down. But paying the price and going the extra-mile, doing what other people are not willing to do, that's greatness, and greatness is not cheap. Greatness always costs more. That's why there's not many people who achieve greatness. They're not willing to pay the price.

See, a lot of people want, want, want, and want, but then they don't use the discipline that they should to get what they want. So decide today that you're going to discipline yourself. When you have the discipline to do the things that you really don't want to do, then you earn the right to have the things you really do want to have. Self-discipline is the key to being able to perform and being able to keep your life on schedule and being able to keep commitments and promises and meet deadlines. It is essential to success.

你看,很多人只是想要得到某個東西,但是,如果想得到這個東西,他們需要一定的自律,而他們并沒有做到。所以,今天就做出決定吧,你要自律。當(dāng)你能夠做到自律,去做那些你并不是很想做的事情,那么你就有權(quán)利獲得那些你想得到的東西。自律,是讓你表現(xiàn)出色的關(guān)鍵,是讓你保持生活井然有序的關(guān)鍵,是讓你信守承諾的關(guān)鍵,使讓你按時完成任務(wù)的關(guān)鍵,是讓你成功的關(guān)鍵。

Making your bed in the morning will also reinforce the fact that the little things in life matter. If you can't do the little things right, you'll never be able to do the big things right, and if by chance you have a miserable day, you will be able to come home to a bed that is made, that you made. And the made bed gives you encouragement that tomorrow will be better. You just need to make a choice, a choice that you're gonna stop being bitter, a choice that you're gonna stop looking back, a choice that you are not going to waste one more day of your life feeling sorry for yourself.

每天早上都鋪床,這也是在強調(diào)一個道理,那就是,生活中的小事也很重要。如果你不能做好小事,那么你也無法成大事。而且,如果你哪天剛好過得很糟糕,你回家的時候,能夠看到一張鋪好的床,你自己鋪好的床。這張鋪好的床,會鼓勵你,明天會更好。你只需要做出選擇,你不要讓自己再這樣悲哀,你不要再回顧過去,你不要再浪費時間來可憐自己。

And I know you may have issues in you, but you're doing better than you think you are. Somebody needs to know that today. You're gonna make it. Somebody needs to know today that you're doing all right and you may not be what you ought to be, but you're not what you used to be and you're gonna get there. Don't you give up. Don't quit. And don't you keep putting yourself down. You're doing better than you think you are. This is not how your story ends. Look again. There's another chapter. There's a new beginning. You just know that you need to keep growing, be disciplined, be committed and have heart to be consistent.

我知道,你可能也有很多問題,但是你的表現(xiàn)比你想象的好得多。今天,有人需要明白這個道理,你會成功的。有人需要明白,你做得挺好的,你可能還沒變成你應(yīng)該成為的樣子,但是你跟以往已經(jīng)不一樣了,終有一天你會實現(xiàn)目標(biāo)。不要放棄,不要半途而廢,不要看不起自己。你的表現(xiàn),比你想象的好得多。目前的情況,和你將會看到的結(jié)果,是不一樣的。再看看,有新的篇章,有新的開始。你只要明白,你要不斷成長,做到自律,意志堅定,保持初心。

If you get up and you just have no discipline whatsoever, you get no value out of anything. Your diets don't work when you don't do them. Exercise doesn't work when you don't do it. Like what is the fire that stirs you, that that you wake up saying, I will do this even when I don't feel like it? I will do whatever it takes to overcome my temptation for mediocracy, my temptation for excuses, my temptation for reasons and circumstances that hold me back. I won't allow those to be in my way. And if you have that within you, you'll achieve whatever you choose. Nothing will be different until you think differently. Nothing will be different until we think differently.

如果你早上起來,這一天沒有做到自律,你就什么都得不到。你不節(jié)食的時候,你的節(jié)食食譜就不會有效。你不運動的時候,你的運動計劃就不會有效。你的熱愛到底是什么?到底是什么東西讓你起床時對自己說,就算我不想做,我也要做?我會付出所有代價,去克服我想變得平庸的欲望,克服我想找借口的欲望,克服一切阻止我前進(jìn)的原因和情況。我不會讓這些東西擋我的路。如果你有這樣的想法,那么你會實現(xiàn)任何你想實現(xiàn)的東西。只有改變心態(tài),你才能改變事態(tài)。只有改變心態(tài),我們才能改變事態(tài)。
