historic不是historical，這5組易混詞，千萬別用錯！

religion≠ethnicity

宗教≠種族

這兩個詞雖然存在一些重疊含義，但它們不能互換使用。

religion指的是你的信仰體系或?qū)τ谀撤N程度上更高力量的崇拜(通常是上帝或神)。

Your religion refers to your system of belief or worship in a higher power of some kind (usually a God or gods).

而ethnicity則是指文化上被定義的身份。

Your ethnicity refers to your culturally defined identity.

historic≠historical

有歷史意義的≠歷史上的

historic指重要的歷史事件，表示“有歷史意義的;歷史上著名的”，

The historic building was damaged in the fire.

這座著名的歷史建筑遭到大火損毀。

而historical指過去發(fā)生的事情，或者“與歷史相關(guān)的;根據(jù)歷史改編的”。

His historical novel was based on that historic movement.

他的歷史小說是以那場有歷史意義的運動為原型的。

有一句話區(qū)分就是，

not all historical events are historic，

并非所有歷史事件都具有歷史意義。

unique≠special

獨一無二的≠特別的

unique指“獨一無二的”，開頭的uni就是拉丁語中的“與眾不同”(one of a kind)。

嚴格意義上來講，地球上的每個人都是獨一無二的。unique不具有情感上的傾向性。

Every person on earth is unique.

但如果你想表達某個人對你而言很重要，special更合適，它表示“特別的，不同尋常的，迷人的”。

This is a special day for me.

這對我而言，是特別的一天。

introverted≠shy

內(nèi)向的≠害羞的

introverted和shy都表示性格特征，但表示的意思卻不一樣。

shy表示“害羞的”，指遇到新面孔時覺得不舒服，無所適從。

She tends to be nervous and shy.

她容易緊張害羞。

而introverted更像一個心理學(xué)概念，指通過個人追求來充實生命的能量，比如閱讀或思考。

He is introverted and like to express himself in writing.

他很內(nèi)向，喜歡在寫作中表達自己。

anticipate≠expect

期待≠預(yù)期

這兩個詞都涉及對未來事件的預(yù)測，然而expect和anticipate反映的狀態(tài)不一樣。

當(dāng)我們說expect，它反映了我們的精神狀態(tài);而anticipate指的是我們已經(jīng)為預(yù)期發(fā)生的事情做好了準備。

When we expect something, it reflects our state of mind. When we anticipate something, we are already preparing for what we expect will happen.

I expect to see my friend.

我期待見我的朋友。

I anticipate that the project can go on well.

我期望這個項目可以進展順利。
