中國(guó)人最易誤解的話(huà)第22期:運(yùn)動(dòng)員的腳

　　He has athlete's foot.

　　(誤譯)他的一只腳長(zhǎng)得像運(yùn)動(dòng)員的腳一樣。

　　(正譯)他患香港腳。

　　Athlete's foot is a fungal infection of the skin thatcauses scaling, flaking, and itch of affected areas. Itis caused by fungi in the genus Trichophyton and istypically transmitted in moist areas where peoplewalk barefoot, such as showers or bathhouses.Although the condition typically affects the feet, itcan spread to other areas of the body, including thegroin. Athlete's foot can be treated by a number of pharmaceutical and other treatments.

　　腳氣，也就是足癬(Tinea Pedis)，中國(guó)有俗名稱(chēng)為爛腳丫，腳氣瘡，還有一個(gè)特別的稱(chēng)謂，叫香港腳。香港腳的來(lái)源據(jù)說(shuō)是英國(guó)人初占香港，因?yàn)楫?dāng)?shù)氐臍夂虺睗駩灍?，士兵們紛紛得了爛腳丫，故爾稱(chēng)之為香港腳。香港腳的對(duì)應(yīng)俗名叫運(yùn)動(dòng)員腳(Athlete's Foot)，起源當(dāng)然是因?yàn)榇瞬「Ｒ?jiàn)于運(yùn)動(dòng)員，流行病學(xué)調(diào)查發(fā)現(xiàn)運(yùn)動(dòng)員比普通人群有雙倍的幾率患此病，有的調(diào)查研究中發(fā)現(xiàn)運(yùn)動(dòng)員高達(dá)70%-80%有腳氣。估計(jì)人一生有70%的幾率在某個(gè)時(shí)刻被感染腳氣。

　　腳氣因真菌感染而起，導(dǎo)致腳局部感染潰爛。真菌感染可能自始至終伴隨著人類(lèi)，但并不常見(jiàn)，故而足癬的描述歷史短暫，最早對(duì)它的描述見(jiàn)于1888年，而在1908年威特菲爾德才首次將這一罕見(jiàn)疾病歸因于感染。為什么遲至1908年醫(yī)學(xué)界仍然認(rèn)為足癬是罕見(jiàn)疾病呢?是什么因素讓一個(gè)罕見(jiàn)疾病在100年左右就變?yōu)槌Ｒ?jiàn)病的呢?
