[00:00.01]Unit 17 A Businessman,A Priest or A Drunk 第17單元 商人、牧師或酒鬼 [00:12.36]An older couple had a son, who was still living at home. 一對老夫妻有個兒子，目前仍然閑賦在家， [00:17.13]The parents were a little warried, as the son was still unable to decide about his future carrer, so they decided to do a small test. 還沒確定未來要從事哪一行。父母有點擔心，便決定做個小測驗。 [00:29.08]They took a ten-dollar bill, a Bible, and a bottle of whiskey, and put them on the front hall table...then they hid, pretending they were not at home. 他們把一張十元紙鈔、一本圣經(jīng)和一瓶威士忌擺在前廳桌上...然后躲起來假裝不在家。 [00:42.31]The father's plan was:"If our son takes the money, he will be a businessman, if he takes the Bible, he will be a priest— 父親的計劃是：“如果我們兒子拿了錢，將來會是個商人;如果拿了圣經(jīng)，將來會是個牧師; [00:53.10]but if he takes the bottle of whiskey,I'm afraid our son will be a drunkard." 但他如果拿了那瓶威士忌，恐怕兒子將來會變成酒鬼?！? [01:00.33]So the parents hid in the nearby closet and waited nervously. Peeping through the keyhole they saw their son arrive. 于是父母躲在附近飛衣櫥里緊張地等待著，從鑰匙孔偷看兒子回來的一舉一動。 [01:09.47]The son saw the note they had left. Then, he took the 10-dollar bill, looked at it against the light,and slid it in his pocket. 兒子看到父母出門的紙條后，先拿起十元紙鈔，就著光看了一下便塞進口袋里。 [01:19.49]After that, he took the Bible, flicked through it, and took it. Finally he grabbed the bottle, open it, 接著拿起圣經(jīng)輕輕彈了一下也決定拿走;最后則是拿起酒瓶， [01:28.19]and took an appreciative whiff to be assured of the quality... then he left, carrying all three items. 打開瓶蓋鑒賞般地嗅了一下，想弄清楚酒的品質(zhì)如何...然后離開房間，把三樣?xùn)|西全帶走了。 [01:36.31]The father slapped his forehead and said, "Darn, it's even worse than could ever have imagined..." 父親往額頭重重一拍，說道：“該死，結(jié)果比我想的還要糟...” [01:52.45]"Our son is going to be politician!" “我們的兒子以后會去搞政治!”
