名字也好啦
The boss of a large company noticed a newemployee one day and told him to come into hisoffice.
一天,一家大公司的老板注意到一個新來的雇員,于是把他叫到辦公室來。
"What is your name?" was the first thing the bossasked the new guy.
“你叫什么名字?”老板先問道。
"John," the new guy replied.
“約翰,”新來的答道。
The boss scowled, "Look, I don't mind what kind of a place you worked at before, but I don'tcall anyone by their first name! It breeds familiarity and that leads to a breakdown inauthority."
老板皺著眉頭說:“聽著,我不管你以前在什么樣的地方工作,可是我們這不會用名字稱呼一個人!那樣叫法是會有親切感,但是會導(dǎo)致權(quán)威的喪失。”
"I refer to my employees by their last name only--Smith, James, Henry--that's all."
“我只以姓氏來稱呼我的員工——史密斯、詹姆斯、亨利——就是這樣,沒什么可說的。”
"I am to be referred to only as Mr. Hilton."
“你要稱呼我為希爾頓先生。”
"Now that we got that straight, what is your last name?"
“現(xiàn)在告訴我你的姓氏是什么?”
The new guy sighed and said, "Darling. My name is John Darling."
新來的嘆了一口氣說:“我姓達(dá)林。我叫約翰·達(dá)林。”
"Okay, John, the next thing I want to tell you is..."
“好吧,約翰,下面我要說的是……”
