[00:-8.00]Danny's Presentation Ladies and Gentlemen:

[00:-9.00]Good morning!Thank you for coming to my presentation.

[00:10.00]Today I'll talk a little about what fitness means.

[00:14.00]Perhaps you do some jobs for your family.

[00:15.00]Your body works for and with your when you do these activities.

[00:16.00]Your body is a complex network of systems.

[00:17.00]It needs physical activity to work well.

[00:18.00]In fact, the more you use your body, the better it works.

[00:19.00]Fitness is a word that described how well you body is able to handle

[00:20.00]physical activities. Why do I need to be fit?

[00:21.00]When your body is physically fit,

[00:22.00]you will be able to do physical things for a longer time:

[00:23.00]You will be able to run and run at the seashore.

[00:24.00]do harder physical activities more easily:

[00:25.00]You will be able to lift heavier things.

[00:26.00]learn better:Being fit helps you to stay alert and focused on your lessons.

[00:27.00]sleep better:You will fall asleep at night easier and wake up feeling better.

[00:28.00]digest and use your food better:

[00:29.00]Your body has lots of ways to use the food that you eat.

[00:30.00]feel better and have more energy:Physical exercise acts like a stimulant.

[00:31.00]It gives you energy-if you don't overdo it.Remember, keep everything in balance.

[00:32.00]have more fun:You will get better and better at physical activities,

[00:33.00]and have more and more fun playing games and doing things with your friends.

[00:34.00]The five areas of fitness:

[00:35.00]The different systems in your body need to be taken care of in special ways.

[00:36.00]If you are really 'fit',you will

[00:37.00]be able to twist and turn the parts of your body in many different ways.

[00:38.00]be able to run and play and work over longer periods of time.

[00:39.00]Your heart and lungs will be used to working hard for long periods of time.

[00:40.00]have strong muscles that can lift heavier things.

[00:41.00]be able to run, walk,or swim faster.

[00:42.00]find that everything in your body will work together better.

[00:43.00]Important informations:

[00:44.00]1.The heart is a muscle wihich pumps blood through blood vessels

[00:45.00]to all the cells in our bodies.

[00:46.00]Our hearts beat continually every day of our lives.

[00:47.00]2.Blood feeds and removes waste from the cells.

[00:48.00]3.To keep our hearts healthy,we need to do enjoyable physical activities

[00:49.00]and eat healthy foods every day.

[00:50.00]What my heart looks likes:

[00:51.00]1.My heart is about as big as my fist.

[00:52.00]2.My heart beats about 90 times per minute(at rest).

[00:53.00]3.My heart is located in my chest, slightly to the left blood of the centre.

[00:54.00]4.Arteries are the blood vessels

[00:55.00]that carry blood from the left side of my heart to the rest of my body.

[00:56.00]5.Veins are the blood vessels that carry blood from my body

[00:57.00]to the right side of my heart.

[00:58.00]So everyone,do you see why I am so strong?

[00:59.00]I eat a lot, sleep well and get lots of exercise.

[-1:00.00]However,I need to eat more healthy foods

[-1:-1.00]-you know I eat too many donuts!Thank you very much for your time.

[-1:-2.00]I wish you all health and happiness! Now,any questions?

[-1:-3.00]Song

[-1:-4.00]Section 2 Meaning through practice

[-1:-5.00]C.Build your listening skills

[-1:-6.00]Listen to the recording of Jenny's trip to the doctor,

[-1:-7.00]and then answer the questions.

[-1:-8.00]Section 4 Reading for maning

[-1:-9.00]Danny's Advice

[-1:10.00]Good health is the most valuable possession a person can have,

[-1:11.00]but one can't take health for granted.

[-1:12.00]There are three things that a person can do to help stay in good shape:

[-1:13.00]eat the right foods, get enough sleep, and exercise regularly.

[-1:14.00]Proper nutrition is important for good health.

[-1:15.00]Your body cannot function well unless it receives the proper kind of"fuel".

[-1:16.00]Avoid foods with lost of sugar and fat.

[-1:17.00]Eat plenty of foods that are high in protein,

[-1:18.00]like lean meat, fish, beans, and nuts[-1:19.00]Vegetables and fruits are especially important

[-1:20.00]because they provide necessary vitamins and minerals.

[-1:21.00]However,don't overeat. It is not healthy to be overweight.

[-1:22.00]Getting the proper amount of sleep is also important.

[-1:23.00]If you don't get enough sleep, you feel tired.

[-1:24.00]You have no energy.Over a long period of time,

[-1:25.00]a little amount of sleep may even result ina change of peronality.

[-1:26.00]Be sure to allow yourself from seven to nine hours of sleep each night.

[-1:27.00]If youu do,your body will feel strong, and your mind will be sharp.

[-1:28.00]Getting plenty of exercise is equally important.

[-1:29.00]Exercise firms the body, strengthens the muscles,

[-1:30.00]and prevents you from gaining weight. It also improves your heart and lungs.

[-1:31.00]If you follow a regular exercise program,

[-1:32.00]you will probably increase your life-span.

[-1:33.00]Any kind of exercise is good.

[-1:34.00]Most sports are excellent for keeping the body in good shape.

[-1:35.00]They are not only good for your body,

[-1:36.00]but they are enjoyable and interesting, too.

[-1:37.00]So,I would strongly advise you to keep a fitness program.

[-1:38.00]There are many things you can do to exercise,

[-1:39.00]such as:ride a bike;play basketball;play ping-pong or table tennis;

[-1:40.00]go for long walks;skip rope;dance;swim;play soccer;

[-1:41.00]do exercises to music;play catch.

[-1:42.00]All these activities can help you build the following.

[-1:43.00]1.Heart and lung endurance

[-1:44.00]The heart and lungs are muscles.

[-1:45.00]They work much better as a system when they get lots of exercise.

[-1:46.00]They will be able to pump more oxygen to all of the other parts of your body

[-1:47.00]when they are in good shape.

[-1:48.00]When your heart and lungs work well,

[-1:49.00]every other part of your body works better.

[-1:50.00]2.Muscle strength

[-1:51.00]Muscle strength is how hard or how far you can move your body

[-1:52.00]or an object(e.g.kicking a ball,or jumping).

[-1:53.00]3.Muscle endurance

[-1:54.00]Muscle endurance is how long you can repeatedly move your body or an object.

[-1:55.00]4.Flexibility

[-1:56.00]Flexibility is how well you can stretch,

[-1:57.00]bend and twist the different muscles and joints in your body.

[-1:58.00]Well,now it is your turn to practise what has been suggested above.

[-1:59.00]If everybody were to eat the right foods,

[-2:00.00]get plenty of sleep and exercise regularly, the world would be a happier place.

[-2:-1.00]Appetite and Emotion

[-2:-2.00]When we feel hungry,it means our body needs food.

[-2:-3.00]When we feel angry or excited, some of us may eat too much,

[-2:-4.00]some of us may not want to eat at all.

[-2:-5.00]A long time ago,in England, some judges used to decide

[-2:-6.00]whether a person was telling the truth by giving him or her some dry bread.

[-2:-7.00]If the person could swallow the bread,

[-2:-8.00]it was a sign that the person was telling the truth.

[-2:-9.00]Though this seems rather strange and foolish,

[-2:10.00]it is indeed an excellent way of finding out the truth.

[-2:11.00]A person worrying about something has much difficulty swallowing anything dry.

[-2:12.00]He or she loses his or her appetite and does not want to eat

[-2:13.00]because he or she is worrying about something.

[-2:14.00]Some people are known as"emotion eaters".

[-2:15.00]They eat,not because they want to satisfy their hunger, [-2:16.00]but because they want to satisfy their emotions.

[-2:17.00]They eat to make themselves feel better.

[-2:18.00]What they believe to be hunger is something else altogether

[-2:19.00]-anger,boredom,fatigue,depression,or loneliness.

[-2:20.00]And so they eat, hoping that food will solve their problems.

[-2:21.00]But in the end, they only feel worse.

[-2:22.00]They gain weight and their emotional problems only grow larger.

[-2:23.00]Emotion eaters often turn to food right after having a bad experience.

[-2:24.00]For example,an emotion eater may receive bad news

[-2:25.00]about an exam they have just taken.

[-2:26.00]They feel stress and fear and turn to food

[-2:27.00]in an attempt to make their negative feelings go away.

[-2:28.00]This kink of eating is not healthy.

[-2:29.00]Many of those who eat like this become obese

[-2:30.00]and then have to deal with the emotional

[-2:31.00]and physical problems that go along with obesity.

[-2:32.00]According to the book,

[-2:33.00]Constant Cravings:What Your Food Cravings Mean and How to Overcome Them,

[-2:34.00]"Emotion eaters must become aware of their motivations for wanting to eat.

[-2:35.00]You need this awareness in order to tell whether your stomach's actually empty

[-2:36.00]or you're upset about something and just want to eat to feel better[-2:37.00]New White House Chef

[-2:38.00]During the Clinton's term at the White House Between 1992 and 2000,

[-2:39.00]a new chef was hired to cook for President Clinton's family and guests.

[-2:40.00]The new chef,Walter S.Scheib III,was born on May 3,1954 in Oakland,California,

[-2:41.00]but grew up in Bethesda,Maryland.

[-2:42.00]He attended Walter Johnson High School

[-2:43.00]and the University of Maryland befor graduating with highest honors

[-2:44.00]from the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park,New York in August 1979.

[-2:45.00]The White House serves food to 70,000 guests a year.

[-2:46.00]Can you imagine cooking for all those people!

[-2:47.00]As the chief chef,Scheib is in charge of a full-time staff of five

[-2:48.00]and oversees a part-time staff of 20.

[-2:49.00]The former White House chef cooked in the traditional French way.

[-2:50.00]His foods tasted good, but contained a lot of fat.

[-2:51.00]Doctors say this is not healthy.

[-2:52.00]The new White House chef will have a medical doctor as an adviser.

[-2:53.00]Dr.Dean Ornish is a heart specialist and writer.

[-2:54.00]He says foods can be low in fat and still taste good.

[-2:55.00]Hillary Clinton, the former First Lady, chose Mr.Scheib after tasting his cooking.

[-2:56.00]She wanted less fat in the White House food.

[-2:57.00]She also wanted to serve more fresh vegetables,

[-2:58.00]including vegetables grown without the use of chemicals.

[-2:59.00]She would also like the White House to serve more American food
