no dice 起源于20世紀(jì)初,當(dāng)時賭博在美國的許多州是非法的,而骰子是賭博的重要工具,也是警察抓賭的關(guān)鍵證據(jù)。因此當(dāng)警察抓賭的時候,賭徒們總是要想盡辦法把骰子藏起來。法院甚至?xí)驗(yàn)榫煸诂F(xiàn)場沒有找到骰子而不受理案件,或因證據(jù)不足而判賭徒無罪。后來人們就用這個俚語來表示不同意、不可能等否定意思,即:“不行,不可以”。因此,當(dāng)美國人說"No Dice!"時,他/她要表達(dá)的意思就是:"I disapprove you!"、"It is impossible!"、"no way!"。
