Yeah, there are over 10,000 Buddhas here, big andsmall.

And if you look at all the Buddhas, you may find some names there.

It's a Chinese practice that people make an offering and then to have the name of the family.

這是中國(guó)人的習(xí)慣。人們出資供奉一尊佛像后，可在其寫上家庭成員的名字。

It's their Buddha.

這就成為了他家供養(yǎng)的佛像。

And it's also a form of supporting the temple, they come in and say "I have a Buddha in there".

這也是支持寺院的一種形式，他們來(lái)到這里會(huì)說(shuō)“我在這里供奉了佛像”。

It's like the connection between the Buddha outside and the Buddha inside.

就像是具象的佛與心中之佛之間的聯(lián)系。

One of the many American Buddhists who come to the temple is Mario Cee.

在眾多美籍佛教徒中，Mario Cee經(jīng)常出入此座寺院。

He became a Buddhist six years ago.

他在六年前成為佛教徒。

There are some who'd say that the attraction of Buddhism for many Americans is that it'spleasingly mystical,

有人說(shuō)，佛教對(duì)眾多美國(guó)人的吸引力，是這種使人愉悅的神秘感。

it comes from the East, but at the same time it ties in with an "anything goes" materialistlifestyle.

以及佛教來(lái)自于東方，但又與不受約束的物質(zhì)主義生活方式緊密相連。

How do you speak to that?

I don't mean any disrespect by this, but I have some friends who use Buddhism and Easternreligion, Eastern philosophy, and they mix it up with New Age.

我無(wú)意冒犯，但我有些朋友確實(shí)把佛教、其他東方宗教思想、東方哲學(xué)與新時(shí)代混為一談。

And that's ok, if it works for them, that's fine.

這也沒(méi)關(guān)系，只要他們能自圓其說(shuō)就行。

But my concern is that it is that sort of "anything goes", you know, it's a free market inspirituality. So whatever I'm saying and thinking today is fine.

但我擔(dān)心的是，那些無(wú)所約束的行為這就像個(gè)精神領(lǐng)域的自由市場(chǎng)。無(wú)論我怎么說(shuō)、怎么想都行。

Because we have these core teachings in Buddhism, it keeps us in check, so we don't go intoanything, "If it feels good, it's OK."

由于佛教核心教義使我們能夠自我約束，因此我們不會(huì)隨心所欲，也不會(huì)有“做這事感覺(jué)很好，那這樣做就沒(méi)錯(cuò)”的想法。

We're really trying to avoid that.

Buddhism gave me a discipline without a necessity of a God to reward me or punish me.

佛教讓我自律，而不是需要有上帝來(lái)獎(jiǎng)勵(lì)或是懲罰。
