 What is light pollution
Light pollution, also known as photo pollution or luminous pollution, is excessive or obtrusive artificial light.
The International Dark-Sky Association (IDA) defines light pollution as:
Any adverse effect of artificial light including sky glow, glare, light trespass, light clutter, decreased visibility at night, and energy waste.
This approach confuses the cause and its result, however. Pollution is the adding-of/added light itself, in analogy to added sound, carbon dioxide, etc. Adverse consequences are multiple; some of them may be not known yet. Scientific definitions thus include the following:
·Alteration of natural light levels in the outdoor environment owing to artificial light sources.
·Light pollution is the alteration of light levels in the outdoor environment (from those present naturally) due to man-made sources of light. Indoor light pollution is such alteration of light levels in the indoor environment due to sources of light, which compromises human health.
·Light pollution is the introduction by humans, directly or indirectly, of artificial light into the environment.
The first two of the above three scientific definitions describe the state of the environment. The third (and newest) one describes the process of polluting by light.
Light pollution obscures the stars in the night sky for city dwellers, interferes with astronomical observatories, and, like any other form of pollution, disrupts ecosystems and has adverse health effects. Light pollution can be divided into two main types: (1) annoying light that intrudes on an otherwise natural or low-light setting and (2) excessive light (generally indoors) that leads to discomfort and adverse health effects. Since the early 1980s, a global dark-sky movement has emerged, with concerned people campaigning to reduce the amount of light pollution.
Light pollution is a side effect of industrial civilization. Its sources include building exterior and interior lighting, advertising, commercial properties, offices, factories, streetlights, and illuminated sporting venues. It is most severe in highly industrialized, densely populated areas of North America, Europe, and Japan and in major cities in the Middle East and North Africa like Tehran and Cairo, but even relatively small amounts of light can be noticed and create problems. Like other forms of pollution (such as air, water, and noise pollution) light pollution causes damage to the environment.

Further methods to prevent light pollution will be developed.
David L. Crawford, a retired astronomer who heads the International Dark-Sky Association, said recent studies suggest about 70 percent of the people in the United States cannot see the Milky Way because of light pollution.
The optic pollution has been becoming an important urban issue.
Colloquium on Light Pollution, Radio Interference and Space Debris was held yesterday.
Being different from the forms of other environment destructions, the effect of light pollution can be easily alleviated, even turned to be positive.
In summer, the strong reflected light of glass curtain wall enters into the nearby residents' house, which increases the inner temperature and influence normal life.
The head lamp of cars and irrational illuminating equipments of workshops will both lead to dazzle.
Artificial daylight is not only harmful to human beings, but also to the birds and insects.
According to astronomy statistics, in the night sky free from light pollution, you can see about 7,000 stars, while in the big cities full of street lights, background lights and landscape lights, you can only see about 20 to 60 stars.
Laser pollution is also a special form of light pollution.
Excessive lighting is a waste by the meaningless use of energy.
Mix of different types of light sources will seriously affect the passive recipients, and even cause accidents.
Light in the dark will make pedestrian or the driver of transient"visual loss", and cause traffic accidents.

Part 3 Let's Talk!
Tom: Tyler, why are you late?
Tyler: I just come back from the maintenance station.
     Tom: What's happening?
Tyler: I came across a traffic accident on the way.
Tom: God, you always cautious in driving, who could it happen?
Tyler: It's that blamed glass wall.
Tom: Do you mean the glass wall of the buildings?
Tyler: Yes. I was driving on the road, and suddenly a strong light flashed in front of my eyes, which make me not to see the front car clearly and crashed with it.
Tom: There are many high-rise buildings with that glass window now. Although it seems pretty, it contains potential danger to the transportation.
Tyler: It is very dangerous especially when the sunlight is strong.
